How do all the regular Slog posters have enough time in their day to write all those comments? Seriously, don't they have jobs?

I type ninety words a minute. And I have several thousand Slog comments already composed in my head, just waiting for the right article.

We have jobs, but we do not work at them.

There are many people who have jobs that involve sitting in front of a computer for most of the day. Some of these people don't really have all that much work to do and thus spend the time watching netflix, listening to podcasts of lectures, or writing numerous slog comments. Many of these people have high paying jobs and snicker at people who do actual work all day. They will never be laid off.

It's called "acceptable usage." In fact, I get major brownie points when I bring local news and opinion to my boss before anyone else.

I'm a server administrator. I start processes on a half-dozen servers, then have to wait for them to finish. While they're working, I have a few minutes to kill (and don't want to start another half-dozen servers, or I'll get confused as to where each is in the process), so I read Slog and comment on the threads that interest me. And I type faster than most people talk.

My job has a lot of down time. I work my ass off for an hour and a half, and then sit around for 45 minutes. That's when I slog.

I'm usually very busy at work, but a little of that time is dedicated to turning my brain off work related issues, which I need to do in order to refuel and get more work done subsequently.. Slog, Questionland, and other forums are right there at my fingertips.

If people write quickly, a lot of text can take a short ammount of time and effort. It may look like people are spending all day in front of the computer, when they are just fast readers and writers.

    Not me!

(Actually, I do have a job that'll start in a month, but it's IT related, so I'll still have plenty of time and opportunity to pollute the internet)

Well, you know, the unemployment rate has more than doubled in the last couple years, so yes, a lot of them don't have jobs.

Lotsa time on the internet for my job already, and I do a lot of calling which leaves time for some much needed mini-breaks.

One of the perks of my job is two months off in the Summer.
