Can I still use my ballot after changing my address?

I moved a few months ago. I just updated my voter registration online, but the ballot had already been sent to my old address.

I did receive the ballot via mail forward. Can I still use it, or do I need to request a new one now that my address has been updated?

Just because you moved doesn't mean you give up your right to vote - you should just send your ballot in. I believe you can check online now to see if your ballot was received by KC elections and if it gets challenged because of the address change. It's not like you just moved here to sway the results of the mayoral election. If it gets challenged, appeal it.

I worked at the polls a few times, and for us they were very clear that we were never to deny anyone the right to vote - even if they weren't listed in the poll book. That person would fill out a provisional ballot that would be checked in a separate process from the regular ballots and they could check online to see if it was accepted or not.

We don't have very much democracy to begin with - if you don't vote the bureaucrats win! (I'm not really a teabagger, I swear. We just can't be passive about this shit, even for an off-year primary.)

The ballot you received is your valid ballot for the primary. The address on your voter registration at the 30-day-prior-to-election deadline is used to determine your precinct and what you are eligible to vote for. Any changes made after that deadline will not go into the system until after the current election is certified.

So vote your ballot, and call 296-VOTE or go online to change your address:

    From the voter's pamphlet:

"If your voter registration record does not contain your current name or address, it may affect your voting status. Note the deadline for changes. Changes to your name and address must be made 30 days before the August 18 primary election to legally entitle you to vote using your new name or to vote in the precinct associated with your new address."

So, it doesn't specifically say you can't vote in your old precinct, it just says it "may" change your status. I would call to make sure. Obviously, parts of your ballot are determined by your address, so there may be specific limits to how far you can move, or how long ago you moved, and still be able to cast your ballot without a challenge.
