Do balding guys who shave their head think they're fooling people?

I keep noticing balding males who have either fully shaved or closely clipped heads. Do they do this for aesthetic reasons or do some/many do this thinking that they're hiding their baldness from others (or even from themselves)?

(Note: I'm not claiming that full or partial baldness is bad.)

I think it's the opposite of them hiding their baldness. It's kind of like "I know I'm losing my hair, so I'm going to speed it along instead of having an awful combover or bald patch." I'm not bald, so I can't really say for sure why, but that's my guess.

I like the look, personally. It shows confidence. Guys who are trying to hide it just start wearing funny hats or getting hair pieces. Shaving your head makes it seem like the guy thinks it's no big deal to be bald, that it's nothing to be hung up about.

I am one of the balding men who decided to fully shave. It's not that we're trying to fool anyone (even the most closely shaved head still leaves a shadow), it's that it looks far better than having the bald on top. For me, it actually made me look my age instead of 15 years older than I am.

I can tell you with certainty that no balding man who shaves his head is deluding himself. In fact, every balding man I've known who made the choice to shave did so because they accepted the fact that male pattern baldness had taken over. It's those who are still holding on to those last few wispy hairs on top that are deluding themselves.

If you've got a well shaped noggin, shaving is vastly preferable to the dreaded comb over. And it is orders of magnitude better than toupees or badly done plugs.

    No, it just looks better.

I have to agree that the Picard look or the Andrew Sullivan look are vastly preferable to a combover. Although I do feel that the Picard look is preferable for most white guys who aren't big and beefy.

What an a$$!!! Did a bald man take your wife or boyfriend? The answer is no, and I never even thought about it as fooling anyone , it's just a lack of options and being sick of jerks like you commenting on the fact that I was losing my hair to begin with. Most of which were jealous of the women that find a shaved head sexy. Try it, you might even get some action if you shaved your head. This question is almost as offensive as a racial remark, why not ask the same question to the next (shaved) man you see on the street larger than yourself.

I'm starting to believe -- in the absence of evidence to the contrary -- that nobody thinks they're fooling anybody.

Those compact cars with the large exhaust pipe and the wing on the back? No, they're not trying to fool you into thinking they can go 200 mph. They just like it that way, and it helps them laid (which is not to say that what turns women on "fools" them -- it doesn't work like that). I know this pisses a lot of people off, but can you prove they do think they're fooling people? They might have bad taste, to be sure, but you truly think that makes them utter morons?

Drag queens know they look like drag queens -- beautiful yes. Indistinguishable from women? No. People singing karaoke do not think they are actual stars, and they don't think they have you fooled.

It's like saying women put on makeup and think it has the whole world fooled that they really look just like that all the time. Or a guy puts on a NY Yankees baseball hat and you accuse him of thinking he's fooling everyone that he's a professional ball player. Silly.

Maybe I'm wrong. Do you know of anyone who has ever confessed to thinking they had the world fooled with this sort of thing?

My god man... I just had the most neatest bestest idea ever. How about hiding the fact I am going bald by... that's right... shaving my head bald. My shits as smooth as a babies ass... as a matter a fact I was at a party freaking last week when two.girls I never met before came up to me to rub my head..... they didn't even say their names or buy me coffee first then after they both told me their names and were leaving I got a very sexy kiss on the neck and a hug... yes they were hot... no they didn't smell like skanks. Suck it fabio!

I don't think so, I think that they just think that it looks better to have a smooth head than to have thinning hair, and I agree.

They're not really fooling people so much as they're accepting that their hair is falling out, so why walk around with an unsightly bald spot or vastly receded hairline when you can walk around with a much more sightly bald head?

I'm too young to have a combover.

And I have a nicely shaped head.

If I could grow hair I assure you it would be down to my ass.
