Assuming you want simple (meaning you don't want to have to lay out a whole bunch of cash at the liquor store beyond what it'll cost you for a decent, 100% agave tequila), I second the Paloma, and I'll also throw in tequila and a decent ginger beer with a squeeze of lime, and also a tequila old-fashioned cocktail:

2 oz tequila- preferably reposado or anejo
1/2 to 1 tsp agave nectar (should be with the honey at the grocery store)
a couple dashes of bitters, preferably Angostura (with the mixers at the grocery store), or Regan's Orange (available at a lot of liquor stores)

Stir in a tumbler filled with ice until well mixed. Top up with a little more ice. Cut a piece of orange rind with a paring knife, trying to get as little white pith as possible. Twist it over the glass to release some of the oils and toss that in there too. Enjoy.

If you want anything more complicated or with more esoteric ingredients, let me know, I'm a professional and I can give you recipes.

Paloma (from mexico city): salt the rim of a highball glass, then add ice, almost a shot of fresh squeezed lime juice, and shot of tequila. fill the rest up with squirt.

I have two that I enjoy, one is a creamy "dessert" type cocktail, not something you want to drink all night but still tastey! Tequila Paralyzer 1 part tequila 1 part kaluha over ice then add some diet cola and milk in about equal parts. I use diet cola because it's my preference. The other one is my version of a Ceasar, which I'm sure you can't make since the Clamato juice  http://www.mottsclamato.ca/?247SEM  required isn't available in the US and using tomato juice just isn't the same, but here it is! Mexican Ceasar 2 oz tequila over ice rim glass with celery salt fill with Clamato juice and add tobasco, worcestershire sauce and salt and peper to taste

Assuming you have good tequila (I prefer a good 100% de agave silver, as it tastes the most of the agave, not the wood of a reposado or anejo) my favorite is:

    4 oz. tequila.
    Ice to taste.

A Cool Breeze - Make a mojito, but replace the rum with tequila. It tastes margarita-ish, but the mint makes it much more refreshing.

Since when can't you get clamato in the US? I'm pretty sure my grandmother drinks that stuff. In fact, I think I saw a bottle last time I was at my dads.
