  4 0 Like Kristen said, I guess it depends on your definition of virginity. I messed around with all of the kids in my neighborhood when I was little, but I don't consider that real sex. My real initiation took place when I was 17. It was the summer before my senior year. I know most people have awful stories about how they lost their virginity, but my experience wasn't so bad. I had been dating the girl for almost a year, so I wanted to make it special. I gave my older sister money to rent a hotel room at this cool Spanish-themed place with a balcony overlooking the atrium. I filled the room with goodies like food, chocolate, fruit, a boombox with chill cds, and champagne. I also had lube and condoms on hand. My girlfriend knew what was going to happen that night, but she didn't know exactly what I had planned, so she was pleasantly suprised. There was some difficulty actually getting inside her (she was a tight fit), and I was too nervous to blow my load for quite a while, but overall it was a great time. I still remember the song that was playing when we first got down to it. I ended up dating and living with that girl for the better part of a decade, which reminds me...   2 0 Voluntarily or involuntarily? The involuntary one - I was 12, it was my stepfather, and no more need be said about it. The voluntary one, I was not quite 17, and it was post-prom. I was a junior and went with a senior boy that I had a flaming crush on. It was in the back of his father's Country Squire station wagon (jesus, those things were huge) under a big maple tree near Evans Pool at Green Lake. I'd done an awful lot of reading about sex, and didn't tell him it was my first time. When I did tell him, a few weeks after, he didn't believe me, because I "knew what I was doing." I am a director for a local charity that works specifically in the area of autism and remember being told that bill gates can not have Asperger's because he is married. Who ever told you that knows very little about the syndrome. It's everything from people who have a little difficulty relating to others and tend to perseverate on the technical to those who are locked forever in their own worlds. And no one who makes that kind of armchair diagnosis of someone they neither know nor have examined should be taken seriously. I do have difficulty forming INTIMATE relationships. Romance, lust, all that, is not particularly difficult. But I can count on the fingers of one hand the people I've formed truly intimate relationships with. I have almost no bond to my family members, for instance. I bond very well indeed to animals, though. They ask less of me, and I understand their motivations better. It actually shocks me a little. Armchair diagnosis by someone like me is one thing; it's not my profession. For them to do it - and remark on it casually like that - is bordering on unprofessional. I guess we all talk out of our asses at times. Then again, maybe they've examined him. But there are a lot of us borderline Aspie types who are married. All three of my full brothers exhibits some degree of Asperger's. I'm the only one of the females among my full siblings who does. Several of my nephews have some degree, and one niece has some symptoms, but probably isn't quite far enough to be considered Asperger's. Among my siblings and I, we run the gamut from one brother, who is right at the border of what I'd consider full autism, to me, just somewhat socially maladjusted. My other two brothers, and my nephews, are somewhere in between. My brother has gone decades without making eye contact, he rocks, he can't hold a conversation without total nonsequitors, etc. I, on the other hand, am just extremely uncomfortable interacting socially in most situations, but I am also intensely curious about it (which might be why I'm an okay actor - I can imitate behavior I've seen). Even in our little genetic pool, we have that wide a variance. Some Aspies are autistic without question. Others are just "raised-by-wolves" types. I'm more the latter. One is a mother whose son has autism and made it her life's work to improve the world for autistics (she received an award from pres. Carter) the other runs a very large nonprofit that provides services to people with autism and other intellectual disabilities. My mothers oldest friend has 3 kids with varying levels of autism. the oldest is a brain surgeon and the youngest is med functioning. We are the same age and as kids I was the only one who understood him. No one was better at make believe than Brian and we had a good friendship when we were young. Junior high became almost impossible for him and made it difficult to maintain the friendship. To this day the mother denies any of her children have autism. I really appreciate your sharing with me. We went and bought cigars to smoke afterward as a celebration. I eventually married him, and now 6 years later, we are divorcing. It's a bittersweet recollection.
