What is your hangover remedy?

I went to see Waxie Moon last night. It was an incredible and inspirational movie, but it also inspired me to drink a little too much. New rule: no burlesque-related activities on a Monday night.

Anyway, now that I have regained the ability to outsmart a ketchup bottle, I find myself wondering what you folks do when you are hungover. I didn't begin feeling better until I had some miso soup with a humbao for lunch.

Whole grain toast with peanut butter and jelly. Protein, fat, carbs, sugar in one bang. Drink a huge glass of water and take two ibuprofen. Keep drinking water. When I used to go to work hungover I'd brew two green tea bags until the water was lukewarm, then add a packet of Emergen-C and chug it. Absolutely disgusting, but it helped. If your stomach is pissed off, water and bread will do- try to get peanut butter down with it if you can. I'm not really a believer in the greasy food cure, I think it just makes you feel shitty in other ways.

Glass of water & ibuprofen. Hot-ass shower then off to greasy spoon with a bloody mary (or alternately, a pitcher of soda).

These are tried and true methods that will help any human hangover.

Sugar, salt, fat, and water, water, water. Plain water will make me puke, so my secret is juice, about half-and-half with water. Or soda pop -- not diet. Now is not the time to get hung up on HFCS; just get it in there. You need sugar. Coffee, if you need to, but not too much. My personal recipe is tart juice, which is sadly not the juice of tarts but something like cranberry or pomegranate. And tons of it. Don't stop until you've got AT LEAST a half gallon down. The idea is to get your system started again, which means peeing and lots of it. You'll feel better with each piss, and by the tenth one you should be almost presentable. Ten pees should be your goal. MINIMUM.

A greasy breakfast is nice, but the bread products are just as important. Pho is good -- with tons of Sriracha. Heat is good. MSG is very good.

Hot showers are nice but temporary. I believe in the restorative powers of the hot BUBBLE BATH.

Hangover sex is better than any other kind.

Reefer. Water with a touch of Juice to keep from puking it up. Ginger tea. coffee. Japanese food or a burger (I can't do eggs when I"m hungover). Advil. Hot shower with Lavender Soap. More reefer. More sleep, if you can get it.

    Exactly in that order.

Force water and protein. Even one crappy egg or slice of turkey bacon helps metabolize the poison that's destroying your liver. Any protein you can force yourself to eat is good. Avoid anything too greasy, unless you WANT to vomit. Drink as much water as you can stomach without puking. Drink (non-corn-syrup-sweetened) fruit juice if you can stand it; cranberry is good. Flush the system.

When you feel well enough that your hair no longer hurts, try Thai Drunkard Noodles, 4-star or hotter. The capsicum really does help neutralize the hangover. Or maybe the pain in your tongue just distracts you from wanting to die.

Then I generally don't drink for at least 3-7 days afterward to allow my body to actually recover. Plus the idea of alcohol usually makes me kind of sick after I've really tied one on.

Vitamin B12 and getting your electrolytes up are the two most important things. So drink some Gatorade (even though I hate HFCS) for electrolytes. And B12 is important because it boosts your metabolism and helps your liver process the alcohol faster. I've found rice milk (other than Rice Dream brand) has a buttload of B12 so go get some.

And it's even more effective drinking this stuff just before drinking alcohol.

I used to get terrible hangovers but these guys help a lot.

A big breakfast ... greasy and salty is best. Bacon, hashbrowns, eggs. Toast to soak up the poison. Water and juice are essential, but hold off on the juice until you get some food in your stomach.

I also agree with others who have suggested weed. THC = Total Hangover Cure. It's true, but useless if you're hungover before work at a job that requires use of your brain.

in the morning once you wake up, i like a little weed and A LOT of gatorade!

Hair of the dog. Ideally, take a stiff drink and sleep the rest of the day. Just make sure it doesn't turn into another binge. (if one drink made me feel better, then two...)

If you have stuff to do, take a cold shower and get some aerobic exercise. You'll feel like crap at first. You might even throw up, but after about an hour you'll feel relatively normal.

I puke like once every two hours if I'm hungover, so I need to get some sugars in me stat or I just lie there seriously considering moving my hand enough to take a sip of water, and failing. Anyway, the only thing that helps eventually is, while I'm riding the endorphins from a puke session, to go get something fatty, starchy and easily digested. When I lived a block away from Dick's that was helpful.

Someone else suggested ibuprofen: for me, that unlocks the door to the magical kingdom of 24 hours of inability to keep anything down.

Chicken fried rice and sipping water all day long. The combination of grease, protein, and starch just makes me feel better, and rehydration is just obvious.

I usually hit the gym- something like a stair stepper for 20 minutes while drinking water, come home, eat a bacon/egg/green chile breakfast burrito, pop some B12, drink assloads of water and I'm good to go. Maybe take a nap.

    Sweating really works wonders.

What works best for me is just staying slightly ahead of the hangover. You'll never feel it if you never start the detoxification process.

Seriously. I haven't had a hangover in seven years.

But I hear: as many as four ibuprofen taken with at least a pint of water, chased by an extra hour of sleep is The Bomb.

Bitters and soda water, and/or a bottle of Pedialyte, which does wonders for rehydrating the body. Obviously, as others have pointed out, also an OTC pain remedy for any accompanying head and body aches.

Someone else pointed out kombucha, which l wholeheartedly second.

More booze. A screwdriver does wonders. If you drink coffee every day, you need to have some so you don't get a withdrawal headache. Also, lots of water.

It does sound dumb to have three beverages in front of you, but I promise you will feel fantastic halfway through that first drink.

3 Advil, plain bagel with peanut butter, apple juice and a hot shower with the light off. Don't know why or how, but it works. Unless you have a window in your bathroom that defeats the purpose leaving the light off.

Your last drink at the bar (and the last before you go to bed) should always be water. Say NO to that last shot of tequila before last call. I swear by the Pasta Method. I fix a big bowl of tortellini with red sauce, eat as much as I possibly can, drink a shit ton of water, puke, eat more, puke again, watch The Princess Bride, and take a nap. When I wake up a few hours later, no more hangover. Works every time.

Amidst your sobering-up drunkenness, try to beat the hangover the night before with two glasses of water before you hit the sack.

Barring that, many stump for Pho, but really a big breakfast of your choice (whether a greasy spoon place or something more fresh), followed by more water and even more water, is one fine combatant against hangovers.

Also, if your stomach's really bothering you, get some ginger ale and sip it down. It settles your stomach.

A plain, untoasted bagel, with absolutely nothing on it, and a sprite. Follow with a couple glasses of water and, if you can, go back to sleep.

I used to like Gatorade, but after several years of abuse, there are at least 3 flavors that I can no longer drink because they taste like hangover.

If you don't have a sensitive stomach, take 2 or 3 standard aspirin tablets (325 mg each), a multi-vitamin and some water before going to bed. Some have said ibuprofen -- don't do it -- after a night of heavy drinking, any of the non-aspirin painkillers are really hard on the liver and kidneys.

The key here is doing this before going to sleep, because you'll wake up WITHOUT ANY HANGOVER WHATSOEVER (unless you're stupid and drink too many different ridiculous novelty cocktails with multi-liquors and syrups; then all bets are off). If you forget and do this after you wake up, it'll help, but it won't be magical.

    Prairie Oyster.

Raw egg yoke, a splash of booze (vodka works best), a little salt and pepper, some worcestershire sauce, a little hot sauce (I like Tapatio), and a splash of vinegar. Combine everything in a glass, no mixing, and down it in one gulp. Recipes vary but I don't recommend doing this with gin or brandy; the flavor combination is awful.

But then this is coming from someone who doesn't get hungover. I just like an excuse to eat raw eggs and drink booze in the morning.

This is going to sound crazy, but Chocolate Milk can do wonders for a queasy stomach. However, be fairly certain you probably aren't going to throw up before drinking it because the stuff is no good coming back up. If you are just looking to calm an upset stomach though, I swear by it!

For guaranteed hangover prevention I take a packet of vitamins (my step mom sends them to me) with an ibuprofin and a huge glass of water right before bed. The problem with this of course is that if I am drunk enough to be hungover then I am usually drunk enough to forget to do this.

My in progress hangover rememdy is a delicate combination of cleaning everything (take a dump, puke, blow your nose, shower) drink some juice, take some ibuprofin and eat some small amount of food when you can. Continue to drink juice for a couple of hours until you feel ready for a big meal.

Tokes, coffee w/lots of cream, and breakfast (must include but not limited to: eggs, potatoes, and cheese) in bed.
What's cool about being hungover in my 30s (besides hardly drinking so hangovers are extremely rare) is that I'm all prepared and well stocked. Nothing cures a hangover like comfort and ease.
