Are readings venues shifting?

Admittedly, I haven't been paying close attention, but has there been an uptick in readings at venues other than bookstores, in proportion to the decline in readings at the declining number of bookstores?

I'm asking because I noticed one at the Blue Moon yesterday and another at the Cretins MC clubhouse next week.  Obviously, the subject matter of each matches the venues, bars and motorcycling, and both are self-published, so maybe it's harder to get into bookstores.  But is that all?  Or are authors really finding other places to promote their books, rather than being shut out by the closure of bookstores?

Smart authors and bookstores have been trying to shake readings out into other venues for a while now. I interviewed Jonathan Lethem at the Sunset a while ago, for instance, and Kim Ricketts events has been hosting readings in hotels and restaurants for a couple years now. It's kind of a confluence of all your qualifications--self-published, matching the venues, the closure of bookstores--as well as bookstores trying to reach a broader audience.
