If you saw someone hatefully yell "goddamned fucking breeders", at achild with mom or dad, upsetting the kid and/or parents, What would you do?

Saw this happen on Broadway recently. Shocked me. Cap Hill's always been so inclusive, intellgient and progressive.

What's going on? How would you react / take action?

l don't think such a thing is even deserving of an answer. l'd probably walk away, and advise my children to ignore that shit and explain why. Heterophobia/hate is just as distasteful as homophobia is. Expressing either in front of children -worse, AT them- is childish, selfish, and truly pathetic. And as l said in response to another answer, even if they knew each other and this was their way of one-upping, it says a great deal of their character; they must be a real joy to date themselves, and are maybe better off not being parents, biologically, adoptively or otherwise.

l've never understood the breeder insult, and find it interesting that an individual so intimately acquainted with prejudice would then turn around and apply it to another. l get the whole 'breeder' thing applied to unfit parents who continue to have children or something, but otherwise it's the same level of ignorant bigotry that is leveled at the gay community by homophobic assholes. lt's stupid. And l'll take my downvotes and stand by this statement any day.

    I would laugh.

    But, then, I'm an asshole.

Let's be real 9 out of 10 Seattleites (including this one) would walk by with their eyes glued to the pavement so as not to get involved. Then they would talk endlessly about how heterophobia is toxic and how they would NEVER say or think something like that (even though they might have those feelings now and again) and then they would pat themselves on the back for being liberal and free thinking.

I would once again spite Ronald Raygun for evicting all the indigent mentally ill from state subsidized mental health care facilities. Because any grownup who would shout obscenities at children is clearly mentally ill and needs help.

Inclusive? Have you been paying attention to the rise of hate crimes and attacks on gays on Cap Hill over the last few years?

But to answer your question the person who yelled that is an asshole but I would wonder if there is more to the story than what you heard beyond the "god damned fucking breeders" statement?

Did the shouter seem relatively normal? Just asking because I've seen some weird(er) shit go down lately on Broadway with our not-so-beloved mentally ill. My favorite was over the summer where a middle aged white woman on one side of John was repeatedly shouting "nigger" and a black guy on the other side was repeatedly yelling "fucking bitch" and other epithets. I'm pretty sure they were both mentally ill, but the white woman definitely took the cake.

Getting to an answer to your question: I'm a big fan of the stink eye for silently voicing disapproval. Unfortunately for loudmouths like that, whether they're mentally ill or not, it's frequently not a good idea to escalate. Silently let them know they're scum, and there's not much they can do to fight back or fuck your shit up.

Love your avatar, by the way.

Unfortunately, the person who yelled it is probably beyond any meaningfull feelings so any response wouldn't matter to them. If it would make you feel better you could say "what a fucking cunt" or "dude you're a prick" and be ready to smack them down if they come at you. If you can't back up your words then keep your mouth shut.

look straight at the kid and parents who just got yelled at and say i'm sorry that happened, it that is not ok for that person to say to you. ignore the person who was doing the yelling/hurting. focus on those who were hurt by the actions of another, and validate that they have done nothing wrong and that the other persons behavior is unacceptable.

It is such a lame thing to yell I would probably try to restrain a laugh. The kid and parents will forget all about it in a couple days, so I don't think any real harm is done.

But I would probably laugh at the guy who yelled it. Calling someone a breeder because...were angry people are procreating and what? Worried about about our global population? Oh man! I'm so angry now too!!!

They probably were having a mutual bitch fest, and someone just pulled out that lame ass gem to try to win.
