What are your remedies for a raw nose from blowing too much?

I have been blowing my nose all day and its raw as fuck. I need to put something on it so I dont feel like a zombie.

I hear:

Blistex
Petroleum Jelly
Olive Oil
Neosporin

are good but what one? I want one that works damn it, I DEMAND SATISFACTION. *Sniffle

OMG Bag Balm (http://www.bagbalm.com/) is the only way to go! It was originally designed for milk cows' udders. It's heavy duty stuff and works like a charm.

Instead of blowing your nose, extract the snot with suction. Perhaps a turkey baster would work well(they aren't just for turkeys and insemination, you know).

    Stop before you reach brains.

Mr. Obvious here -- I apply any of the above-listed items well before I get raw-nosed. I keep applying like mad till I no longer need to.

I use Neosporin if there is an area that's really raw and seems like it could get infected. Otherwise, I find a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream under a thick layer of my most intense moisturizer does the trick. I think you could probably use petroleum jelly in place of moisturizer if you prefer. If you leave a lot on it can also help to protect your skin from future nose blowing. Just remember to reapply often.

Also, I second Kristen Bell's suggestion of tissue with lotion. I've saved my nose many times buy purchasing a box of lotion tissues when I first notice I have a cold.

Well, as another suggestion in case you need to keep blowing: have you tried the Kleenex with lotion? They are very soft and will help you feel less raw most likely.

I can't decide if your profile picture scares the crap out of me, or is extremely adorable.

Honestly, I found if I blow my nose in the shower, I have MUCH fewer sinus headaches and infections.

It's something I do almost every day in the winter now.

(Hey, maybe this is obvious to you, but it took me almost 30 years to figure this out...)

I got tired of the raw nose thing when I was about ten, so here's what I came up with.

I blow my nose two of three times with a tissue (folding it between each blow). Then I roll the corners of the folded up tissue and stuff them up my nose and give another blow. This seems to scoop out or knock loose more snot than just blowing, so you don't have to blow as often, and it prevents the pinch/wipe motion is that actually the source of raw nose. You end up with a used tissue that looks like a very bad attempt at modeling Frank's head from Donnie Darko.

I haven't had a raw nose since I started doing this. Using crap like Blistex or KY never did jack.

A friend of mine swears by the neti pot method.

I have a sensitive sinuses and used to suffer from really bad allergies and hayfever. Vaseline works great, and the best way is to put it on every time after you blow. If you're out of the house, carry a small tube of facial moisturizer (fragrance free, so that it won't irritate) and do the same. If you can find thicker stuff than Vaseline, put it on at night.

I also found that pinching the area just above my nostrils (mid nose) while blowing my nose, then only lightly wiping away at the end lessened contact with any raw areas.

I would not recommend topical hydrocortisone, as it thins your skin over time, making it more irritable.

Not the nicest stuff, but the best working is good old Vaseline petroleum jelly. I would not use the same bottle you may have used to prepare for anal sex though!
