My finances are a mess. How does one go about seeing a financial planner?

I have credit card debt, looming student loans, am a grad student on a fixed stipend, have a hard time making basic bills despite a frugal lifestyle, and am just generally lost on how to handle it all.

If I were to see a financial planner, would they help me get a handle on things in one or two sessions? How much would it cost me?

Since you are having a hard time making ends meet, I would suggest credit counseling and education . . . they can work with your creditors to modify your terms AND create a program that is within your means:

American Financial Solutions can give you lots of info on how best to approach your problems.

Financial planner would not have the same weight or access to creditors to help modify your situation, so for now I don't think you should consider seeing one.

    Hope that helps.
