What are board and card games you like to play?

My friends and I have started having a dinner and game night and need some game suggestions, what are games that you and your friends like to play? There are usually 4 - 7 of us so a game that can have that many players is important.

Settler's of Catan is awesome. It is normally for 4 players (though you can team people up) or you can buy an expansion that allowed 6 players. It is a really fun, challenging game.

I am a total nerd and have forced some of my friends to play it with me (despite groans) and after we we're done they all said how much fun it was, and wanted to play it again.

Ticket to Ride is a pretty kickass 2-5 player game. Settlers of Catan is solid for 3-4, with an 5-6 player expansion.

These are both a bit more involved and on the pricier end ($30-40) but really, really fun.

Cosmic Wimpout is fun, easy to learn and immune to intoxication. There is no limit to the number of players and it is super cheap and portable.

I love word games of any kind, so Bananagrams is one of my favorites. You can also play it with Scrabble tiles (in fact, my family has been playing basically the same game with Scrabble tiles for years). I love Scattergories too. Recently a friend of mine found a game called Perquackey at a thrift store, and it turned out to be a big hit with our group. The rules seem kind of complicated at first but it's actually pretty simple once you start playing. I also really enjoy Set , but it's not for everyone. It's a pattern recognition game and some people find it kind of frustrating. One of the nice things about set is that it can be played by one or two people, but also works well for a medium-sized group. I've heard that some of the other games made by the people who make Set are also fun, but I've never played any of them. Wits and Wagers is pretty fun for large groups; it definitely doesn't work for just two or three people. It's like a cross between a trivia game and a bluffing game. I've played Say Anything once or twice, made by the same company as Wits and Wagers, and it was decent, but I liked Wits and Wagers better. Balderdash can be pretty fun for groups, too. Okay, last game - Hoopla, from the Cranium people, is great for 2 or more players. I actually like it better than Cranium, personally. A quick web search just revealed that the game is out of print, though, so I'm not sure where to get it. If you see it at a thrift store or something, pick it up.

It's a dice game, but 10,000! AKA Hot Dice and Farkle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farkle

And I wholeheartedly second Apples to Apples and Balderdash.

Chrononauts, Shadow Hunters, Tobago, Race for the Galaxy...

Seriously, find a game store (Blue Highway Games on Queen Anne, but there are others) that has a library to try some of these games out if you can.

I don't really play board games. Obvious card games are the typical ones: Gin Rummy, Spades, Poker, Blackjack, etc.

My favorite games are played with bones. Get a nice set of dominoes and learn how to play Straight 5s, Mexican Train, and Chickenfoot. Then buy some dice and play Farkle and Craps. Now you are gangsta! All of these games accommodate between 4 - 7 players, playa.

Obviously Euchre is the best card game out there. I long for a game right now.

On the nights when you have 4 players, pinochle is really fun and addictive!

Contract or Shanghai Rummy and Misère are both great group card games. Both require 2-3 packs of cards (matched backs are best), so your investment is small.

Contract or Shanghai Rummy is a form of gin rummy with an option to block other players from taking the top card. It can be very competitive, leading my friends to call it "cunt cards" since we always end up using the worst swears after a few hands. Rules are here:

Misère is a bid game, where players each bid on the number of tricks they will take. Rules are here:
