How can I find a cafe with mellow music?

I have an urge to sit in a cafe, read, and have coffee and dessert while listening to mellow live music. Is there some sort of listing site for this kind of event or do I have to go to the website of every coffee shop in the city?

I've been to a ton of cafes and the only rhyme & reason to music is who is working the counter. For example:

Solstice (u-district): loud & distracting music of the folk genre.

Bauhuas (cap hill/first hill): M.I.A. (need i say more?)

So, the best advice would be to request something to the barist (which probably doesn't work) or get some ear plugs.

mellow live music? I know Trabant in the U District used to have bands in there once in a while. Not sure if they're still doing that.

Your best bet there is probably to call the cafes nearest to you (the independents) and ask if they have a live music schedule. There used to be several little cafes/diners that had live music occasionally - the old Honey Bear in Greenwood was my personal favorite. Quite a few of them have an open mic night, but that's going to be catch-as-catch-can as to whether you get someone screaming their angst or singing it in a nice mellow manner with an acoustic guitar.
