Does anyone know where I could get a retro-style swimsuit in Seattle?

For some reason, I always need a new suit in February, and I need one by next week. And I need something in a size 12 - 14, so someplace that has a variety of sizes. Ack.

I've looked and haven't found anything in Seattle. Popina Swimwear in Portland has a few retro styles, but that's the closest place I've found. The internet may be your best bet.

Online, you should check out Modcloth , they've always got a variety of retro swimsuits for women and many of them come in plus sizes. Free returns.

I don't know about retro, but Sylvia's Swimwear (http://www.goswim.com/seattle_retail.aspx) has a wide selection of suits, might be worth a try! They also have a wide variety of sizes, so you should have luck with it fitting if you find what you like.

    Try

She works from home in North Seattle and has everything from stripper clothing to modest Victorian styled underwear. Her bathing suits are priced right and custom made.

So this wouldn't be ready for next week, but good to know about for next time. This woman in west seattle custome makes swimsuits for not that much more than nice quality suits cost off the rack, in my opinion. Plus you'd get to pick the fabric, color, style and be sure that it's something that fits you. My best friend (size 12-14) had one made that she loves. I plan to get one there soon...

Again with online only (as far as I know) but Esther Williams line of swimsuits is adorable! HUGE pattern selection and different styles that can be custom made with your fabric of choice. Plus sizes up to 16 are standard. I love the "sheath" style so much!

Edit: It looks like shipping takes too long, waaay too long for custom orders, BOO. But a great idea for the future

Just what do you call retro?
Are we talking turn of the 19th century, full length men's tights here? Or is it early 1970s Speedos nylon form fitting (and revealing) underwear briefs?

I have made a pair of nylon swim trunks based upon the pattern of a worn out pair of speedos. With a little elastic for the waistline and perhaps around the leg openings, you can easily whip up a pair that will make you the most popular guy at the beach....

(I have NEVER been able to understand why the midi-length men's swimsuit with multiple pockets ever caught on. It would seem the mid-leg length shorts would be so waterlogged, and non-form fitting, that it would signify a basic fear of revealing one's genitalia or being spotted as a male!)
