St. Patrick's Day Celebration Suggestions?

While St. Patrick's Day partying has been largely co-opted by frat boys looking to get hammered, there are those of us that love to celebrate our Irish roots by, um, getting hammered (minus the green vomit).

As a native Seattleite and Irish-American, I am embarrassed that I can't think of any good Irish bars/pubs in general around town, and St. Patty's Day parties in particular.

Can you help a sister out?

EXTRA PROPS for anybody that knows of places to hear Irish music and dance. Night of and following weekend.

Thanks!

Not in Seattle but perhaps in your radius:

Two years ago, following a full day of hiking and beachcombing at Deception Pass State Park, a friend and I impulsively decided to reward ourselves on the way back home with a beer and a bite at the Skagit River Brewery in Mt. Vernon. Upon entering, the sound of fiddle and accordion and the aroma of corned beef and cabbage reminded us it was March 17th.

Apart from the servers' kitschy green t-shirts there was nothing tacky or amateurish at all. Just traditional Irish music, a few holiday additions to the regular menu, and a respectful crowd of all ages. If St. Paddy's fell on the weekend again I'd be up there in a heartbeat.

I'm a big fan of the Own N' Thistle. Look on their website for details!

If you'd like to avoid green beer, come to The BottleNeck Lounge on Madison. Although the place is small we take St. Patrick's day quite seriously. Smithwick on draft and really great corned beef sandwiches. No live music but we'll have great stuff on the stereo. Look for the Irish flag flying overhead. Doors at 4.

I celebrated St. Patty's Day at FX McRory's a couple years ago and there was a great Irish band playing Irish music the whole day and plenty of good beer and food. We stayed for several hours and had a blast. Plus it's close to Qwest field and easy to get to with a lot of parking around. Maybe they're doing something similar this year?
