Are all post office branches open till midnight for mailing taxes?

I have to mail my federal tax return and payment today. I know the post office extends hours on tax day but I don't want to be running around all night trying to find the one that is open late, are all branches open late tonight or only just a few? I checked the usps.gov website and couldn't get a decent answer there.

A little tip for you...NOTHING happens if you mail your return (a little) late, meaning tomorrow. The IRS isn't going to hunt you down and throw you in debtors prison or try to collect the .77 you owe in interest because your return is postmarked April 16th...the IRS is receiving MILLIONS of returns and they're not all going to show up in their offices tomorrow.

    Be a rebel...

The short answer is NO. But to give a more detailed answer only the ones with a yellow sign in the window saying they will be open are in fact going to be open. Is there a way to go online to figure this out. NO. You can try calling, but you will maybe get an answer at the end of the line. Best chance is to bring your taxes in before 5.

The vast majority of post officies have stopped this practice.
At one time, it was considered a service to a stressed out public that local radio stations would help publicize and promote their own self-image.

However, in this day and age of fights for increases in postal rates, the popularity of email over snail mail, and cutting personnel budgets... the extended hours are a thing of the past.

Get your stuff postmarked by 5 p.m. or else file an extension!

Consumerist has a post on post offices open in major cities. For Seattle, the only one they list is the Riverton station.

The Riverton Station (15250 32nd Ave. S., Seattle) will allow you to buy postage and deposit tax forms until midnight.

Here's a list of other western WA locations that had extended hours *last year*. I don't know if they will have the same hours this year:

Nope. What they've done in the past, though, is have people outside the downtown post office who will take your return from your car window so you don't even have to get out of the car. Dunno if they still do that. Also you might not want to give your tax return to a homeless dude by mistake.

EDIT: I'm old. They don't do this anymore. Sorry. Riverton's your baby.

    No.

    Only the one at Sea-Tac.

Just file electronically and save a tree.
