I need some good sunny day reading.

Hi! I need some recommendations on books that are good to read on sunny days. I've started on a number of books recently only to set them aside because I can't get into the contextual vibe. For example, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which is set in the dead of winter and is all around pretty dark.
What can I read that ISN'T chick lit., but also isn't dark and intense (I'll save those for this winter).

I like Summerland, by Michael Chabon. It's technically a YA fantasy book, but it's a great epic yarn set in the Pacific Northwest. And there's a Sasquatch!

My favorite summertime read of all time is Love in the Time of Cholera, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The weather is practically a character. And it's dreamy and romantic in a way that could never happen in the cold.

Tales of the City is a great suggestion.

Also, Maria Semple's This One Is Mine. She's a local author who used to write for Arrested Development. It's hilarious.

Vendela Vida's And Now You Can Go isn't all happy and sunny—-it starts with a tense scene--but it's the kind of book that I remember reading in a big shaft of light. It filled me with a kind of glow at the end.

How I Became Stupid by Martin Page is a slight French comedy about a kid who thinks his own intelligence is what's keeping him from being happy. His attempts to dumb himself down are hilarious.

All of these books have sunny covers, too: At the very least, you could lay them out on your coffee table and look at the sunlight reflected on them for warmth.

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. Set in Spain and other sunny countries. The heat and dusty Spanish streets feature heavily and with the exception of one chapter where a rain storm features heavily there is no mention of bad weather.

The good ol' Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin are good for a sunny day (apart from Babycakes, which is largely set in the UK so better suited for rain).
