Questionland's reputation system is designed to encourage high quality content. A person's reputation is based on the following 4 items:
- Favorite Answers: Whenever someone asks a question they can choose their favorite answer by clicking the . When your answer is chosen as a favorite it will really boost your reputation.
- Member Referrals: When someone signs up from an invitation you sent them, you get a referral. Referrals will really enhance your reputation so Invite some of your friends now!
- Featured Questions and Answers: When you ask great questions and post great answers there's a good chance they'll be featured by the Questionland Seattle moderator. Featured posts appear at the top of the Questionland Seattle home page and will improve your reputation considerably.
- Following Questions: When people are interested in your questions, they'll follow them to be notified of new answers and comments. And you'll get a reputation bump each time.
- Post Ratings: If the community likes your posts (answers, comments, classified ads) they'll give you a . If they don't they'll give you a . Good ratings will improve your reputation.
- Voting Etiquette & Restrictions: Voting helps other people easily view the value that the community attaches to an answer. Voting content "up" (thumbs up) means you think it is helpful. There are no restrictions on up-votes. Voting it "down" means you think it is factually incorrect, off-topic or not helpful (simple disagreement is not a good reason to vote something down). Down voting sends a powerful message to the contributor (intentionally or not). As a result, we have limited down-voting to people who have accumulated a minimal positive reputation of 30 or more. The rationale is that you ought not to be able to criticize others until you have tried it yourself. We have also rationed down-votes to 3 times in a 12 hour period. We hope that rationing will lead to a more judicious use of down-votes.
