What Happened to Questionland?

We decided it was high time to give the mushroom and gnome a nicer place to live and to give our Qlanders a nicer place to visit. Take a stroll around and if you're wondering about what, why or how we did it, we've go...

Have no fear, we will as assimilate your website and incorporate it in our own. blah blah blah and you know about the thing about resistance

based on your lovely & simple busker analogy, I'd back you up on this. Bring back the Sado-Masovoting!

He's been changing expressions for a bit though. The change to Redcap is interesting though: is this a super obscure Blue Oyster Cult fanboy reference??

(Count me as one of those three then: It totally makes me throw up in my mouth a little to see typeface-scramble like that. Plus, TimesNewRoman doesn't set any better with me than ComicSans...)

Well, I SUPPOSE, with all the laying on of compliments and such, and highly quoteable accolades, I COULD end my (24 hour) boycott then...

But no promises on coming to love or even like it. My schtick-in-mud design-aesthetic is deeply entrenched.

    p.s.
Might I suggest the only foolproof strategy be to let yours truly redesign the entire thing in velvet reds and velour black, gilded idols and smokey candles - something inline with the 'Rubrics According to Rev Smith' styleguide...
something featuring a lot of these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sacredheart.svg

Will in Seattle mentioned that he always voted for his own questions and answers on Slog once. Which makes his spectacular reputation ranking -- dead last out of 4,871 contributors -- even more pathetic.

Many years as an art director makes one good at the soft criticism. I decided "who is your designer, fisher price?" was too harsh. I DO think it is fun though.

Sorry to hear that (about the pandering I mean).

Seriously though, that's disappointing. But the Borg are notoriously hard to please. If you have suggestions to make it better we'd be glad to hear them.

I did NOT notice that. I will have to watch for it!

The little button at the bottom of the page that says "rest" is also an interesting discovery.

    Rev,

We had an all-hands meeting to discuss your comments. We were not pleased that you were not pleased. That is unacceptable to us for such a key contributor. We thought of changing the design entirely, but that would be a huge amount of work and no guarantee that you would like the new one. So we decided that the only strategy left to us was for you to change your mind and come to love it.

I want to thank you in advance for helping us out on this. I'm not kidding when I say that one of the most prolific/best contributors not liking it is just NOT ok. So like it! please...

As Marty, the elf (also featured) said when he read this: "But, it's always sunny in Questionland!".

I know what you mean about the shroom, it's hard to let go of the guy we came to know and love. My feelings are mixed. Did you notice how he changes expressions?

I had the same problem in an earlier prototype and we changed it. Now it stands out quite a bit - bold and everything. So...

I think this is a browser issue. If you could tell me what browser/os you are using we could check it out and fix it.

    Thanks for letting us know.

Maybe a little TMI on the "slapping" business... practice makes perfect, so don't give up now, I think you'll come to like it.

But thanks for liking the site.

    Kip,

Nice backhanded compliment there. I agree, we tried to keep the "fun" feel. This isn't meant to be work after all. Of course, juvenile may be ideal, who asks more questions than a kid?

Hope you liked the "Questionland After Dark"...

We'll look into a link to The Stranger and try and get one in there soon.

When you say "messed up" could you give me a little more detail about what it looks like and ideally what browser/os you are using to view it?

I'd love it see it so we can fix it. If you are seeing it, I'm sure plenty of other people are too.

So, thanks for being the one to let us know. Much appreciated.

I'm sorry you don't like it much. I also understand what you are saying about the vertical space being taken up by the "stuff" (shall we say) at the top. We had/have the same concerns and will be testing out that aspect of the site over the next little while.

It's pretty common these days to have these "sky boxes" at the top of the site so that occasional users can easily navigate to the content that they are most likely to find interesting. It may be that these should be returned to the right side. We'll keep an eye on it and continue to get feedback.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

That's a very good point. Perhaps we can integrate the username with avatar. Not sure about turning it off though. I get where you are coming from, but most of us (I think) get a kick out of the avatars.

Thanks, these are all good ideas. The Stranger link really needs to be somewhere easy to get to.

I sort of agree with you about the Slog/Stranger link, but if there were a link, you'd still have to scroll up or down to get to it.
I have put the links on my bookmarks bar, to save on the scrolling boredom.
