Thanks! Unfortunately I copied the address wrong, it is two blocks south at 3715 S. Hudson (3709 S. Ferdinand is the main Bike Works location)

Also, somebody in my house got the brilliant idea to use powdered graphite to stop a hinge from squeaking...the hinge is perfectly quiet, all right, and I have been wiping graphite residue off the door jamb for literally years. If cleanliness is an issue, use graphite very sparingly, or use something else for lube.

I hope your creation turns out great.

From your description of the use, the actual turning is minimal, so you are using it to transfer movement but not high torque - to perhaps keep things in phase during movement (?).
I wonder if using a wax, silicone paste, or powdered graphite lubricant on a clean chain would be effective and keep grease out of the other parts.

That seems odd to me; why would it? It seems a reasonable suggestion.

I'm generally with Fnarf . . . Tap the hood lightly if they actually stop, slap the side panel if they don't. And in both cases, just keep running or walking. I've been nearly run down in the crosswalk by Lake Realty near the Green Lake wading pool so many times, I have it practically down to a science. I fantasize about pedestrians being able to push a button to have spikes pop up out of the road if cars don't stop for the crosswalk (of course that would make it even more dangerous, but whatever . . .)

Fnarf, I'm surprised. Surely you don't think it's a good idea to escalate a bad situation. As the man that soundslikepuget says, the next thing you know you have a gun in your face.

It's also possible it was an innocent mistake. Even reasonable, otherwise nice people, get distracted when driving or make errors. Sure, their mistake could kill you, so pedestrians need to assume nothing and be ready for anything.

Some of my best friends are bad drivers (and he knows who I'm talking about).

I think it was the lawyer comment that got the downvotes.

l don't know. l'm not sure it's so much a matter of immaturity so much as an expression of fear/anger/adrenaline response to realizing you could have just lost life and/or limb due to some total moron's inability to operate a car. lf it was something more on the minor side of things where damaging another's property over a pissy little detail makes you the giant asshole, not them, then yes, it's immature as shit.

But dammit, l'm going to get fucking PISSED when l'm being cautious, following the laws, and minding my own business when some dickhead almost kills me - or at the very least, puts me in the hospital for several months with various injuries l can't afford to pay for. And l doubt that dickhead is going to stop; he'll probably slow down long enough for me to roll off the hood and take off again. And while l'm broken and bleeding on the road, l won't exactly be able to catch that receding license plate.

There are other circumstance in which raging or throwing a tantrum is pretty lame, but l'm not entirely sure this is one of them. Not my downvotes, by the way.

Oh, and you can also take Amtrak Cascades. Here's a guide from Skagit Transit. I would double check the times they quote on this particular page, however, as WA State Ferries and Amtrak schedules change often, and the individual Skagit & Island transit routes listed may have different arrival and departure times now too: http://www.skagittransit.org/index.cfm?pageID=1386

Thank you! I wonder if the 99 route drivers know--I bet the tourists riding along the waterfront are pretty curious, well, the ones that aren't totally oblivious and simply checking off all the spots on their "spend way more money than that really lame stuff would ever be worth" list.

I also thought it was "...under pressure." I made up one going the other direction, too. Pressure Under Seattle Makes Cats Jump.
I didn't like the grammatical ambiguity of the other one.

I heard it as "Jesus Christ Made Seattle Under Pressure", which goes a long way in explaining the street grid.

    - which gets you downtown: Jefferson/James, Cherry/Columbia, Marion/Madison, Spring/Seneca, University/Union, PikeOrPine. I haven't heard of any mnemonics for areas other than downtown, though. I think on the hill, most people navigate by landmark than by street names anyhow. (This is especially true of PikeOrPine...)

Stinkbug: of course, pedicabs take a different class of biker, just as bike messengers are a whole other breed. ;)

I'd imagine any urban village where short cab trips are the usual thing (read: any of the seattle urban villages with pubs), the pedicabs could step in and replace the gas-burning cabs. U dist, belltown, uptown, admiral/california avenue, ballard, fremont,... hell, even lake city could use it.
(I think downtown's actually the most challenging... I think many fellow bikers would agree.)

If we regrade the rest of the seattle hills, we could create a land bridge with the debris and forego having to pay billions for a new 520! Excellent!!

    'colonial'...ha.
WASP guilt = fewer 'green' cab options in seattle? hmmm. ;)

I like the priuses too, but I sure would like to see more non-oil-war-type vehicles. (i.e. why not go full electric for cabs? pro-gas arguments often center around topspeed and length-of-trip issues, both of which are not as necessary with the trips generated by taxi cabs)

Bauhaus: FYI - 2nd and 4th are fast because the DOT has timed the lights that way. You can start on 2nd in Belltown and land in Pioneer Sq without a single red light if there's no traffic and you go about 30-35 mph. Likewise, 4th is timed the same way for northbound traffic.

Banning horse buggies and pedicabs from those roads would be wise.

Biking uphill on a 2-wheel bike is a lot easier than biking uphill on a pedicab.

There are a fair amount of pedicabs along the waterfront during warmer months. It's flat and full of tourists who will happily pay for the experience. (And also has decent sidewalk space.)

Back and forth on broadway. Limited parts of downtown. Where else do you think they could be used well in the city?

Totally forgot about that tragedy. So, yeah, that's a very good reason for not having pedi-cabs. Also, cars downtown seem to fly in Seattle. Sometimes 4th Ave, for instance, is like the Daytona 500 through town, and I've seen near freeway speeds on 2nd, 6th and 7th just a couple of blocks north of downtown. Not an optimal setting for slow-moving, non-automotive traffic wishing to survive.
