I'm sure it's done intentionally, most likely through a computer technique called digital color grading. There was a great featurette about it on one of the LOTR DVD's...watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4zRMLbZZxw. After I saw how it was used in LOTR, I now notice it everywhere.

My guess is that they introduce a lot of blues into the spectrum and back off on other colors, in order to give everything a cold, sterile feel (and to ramp up the drama, and to make House look even more sallow). It also makes lighthearted scenes more noticeable by comparison when they restore some natural color.

I just noticed this when I was catching up and it seems more pronounced than it used to be. I thought it was deliberate dealing with wilsons cancer/series end thing. Did you notice it on previous seasons or just the end of this one?

I do not regularly watch this show but have viewed a few episodes. What sticks out in my memory is that the real story is in the dialog and faces of the actors as they interact in the course of the plot, not so much the scenes, which are often the confines of the medical facility itself - sterile and controlled.

I searched to see if there were any notes indicating that the color palette was controlled in any way to keep the focus more on the persons and less on the environment, but did not find it.

Any new television set will have different color settings to choose from with some standard choices of color emphasis. Mine has category choices under a menu for Video Settings for Movie, Sports, Game, Enhanced, and Other. You can fine tune the settings for specific categories and so could play with the settings for Saturation, Hue, Contrast, etc. to come up with the ideal "House" color settings and leave that under one category. That way you could select the alternate palette when you go to watch that particular program.

You really need to hunt around in the control menus to find out all of the various ways you can enhance your viewing experience with your new screen in your particular room and lighting conditions.

I realize it's far too late to help you for last week, but I hear Lobby Bar does a good one. I haven't been but it's hosted by Lily Armani and she's usually very funny.

Too late for the premiere, I know, but the Summit Public House (Summit and Mercer) replayed it on Monday night at 9 and said they would be doing this for the rest of the episodes this spring (DVRing it on Sunday and showing it on Monday). So at least you have an option for next week....

Strictly speaking, on legal terms, any bar or public venue that shows HBO content is risking HUGE legal action against them. Getting HBO service includes customer agreement to not use or display the content in public settings or businesses.

I ran into the same problems trying to find a bar who would play True Blood.

I don't know of any bars hosting showings (but that would be really, really awesome). However, if you are willing to go the less-than-legal route websites such as sidereel.com and watchseries.eu usually have stream links for episodes the next day. Just be sure to run your virus updates regularly and you'll be fine... until the next version of SOPA is passed.

Every episode of SNL is on Netflix streaming (and maybe Hulu Plus?) so you could track it down there since you know exactly what episode it's in.

SNL is very tight about content and seems to have removed and polices all content that used to be on YouTube and other sites.

The first season was on CityTV before moving to HBO Canada for Seasons Two and Three. The great song that opens the show is One Great City! by The Weakerthans.

The first season was available on CityTV's website, but has been removed. Probably would have been an international copyright issue watching it in the States from a Canadian TV website though. There usually is. I was fortunate enough to reside in Vancouver when it premiered.

Still, ask a friend who is a computer nerd about where one might be able to watch all three seasons (wink,wink). I've checked out Indigo's website (the former Chapters in Canada) and a DVD is as of yet unavailable.

Maury Chaykin's character, Sam Blecher, the father, was in hospital for much of Season Two (and in fact, Mr. Chaykin was pretty ill in real time). He passed away in 2010 before Season Three. There was a big gap in time between taping the end of Season Two and the start of Season Three. I assume it was because writers didn't know how to proceed with a series when its star had died.

I'm very fond of this show, too. You have good taste, Griffin.

It doesn't appear to have been officially released on DVD, even in Canada.

There have been three seasons produced and in the US all will be exclusively available via DirectTV's Audience Network, which started with the first season in November 2011.

It is possible that it may appear for sale season by season after officially airing here, but you will have to keep monitoring that situation. The series had been released for broadcast in Canada, South Africa and Germany before coming to the US.

Youtube videos can help with pronunciations. Rainn Wilson was on Jimmy Kimmel, for instance. It's "rain."

When the latest movie version of "The Thing" was released to theatres, suddenly the original 1983 Kurt Russel/John Carpenter's "The Thing" was getting flagged left and right.
As a result, you can watch nine 10 minute segments of the movie, but as soon as ANYONE uploads the final five minutes, it is immediately restricted, even Spanish language versions and captioned versions.
Go figure. Most of the movie is just fine, but the last 10th segment gets banned.

I gotta go with Pond.

It usually takes a day to a week for things to be posted on network friendly streaming ( like hulu or on the networks own page) being that the 3 rd episode aired yesterday according to the episode guide on tv.com ( relatively reliable in the 3 years I've used it to see when shows air) it should be up soonish. Your question was asked before the 3rd episode was even available to the tv viewing public. If you watch stuff online ya gotta be paitent or illegal (and even that has a lag time before stuff gets posted). I know there's been some discussion of the latter hear and it's easy to find out info on how to do it online, but if ya get caught it's not worth being a week behind on the shows that hulu posts seven days later ( like house, or at least that was the case last season) but most are just a day or two behind. Sometimes hulu redirects you to the networks streaming ( which sucks because their viewers are usually crappier and don't stream as well, but it's how they choose to license it) also some shows that have the longer wait time don't have that if you get hulu plus, but I couldn't justify seven bucks a month for one show a week earlier but if you have a fancy phone that also covers hulu on the phone so it might be worth your while. There are search engines for free streaming- I seem to remember something like thefreetvproject that was just a list of shows and episodes. You'd click on episodes and it would show you a list of them on the web with speed and quality. Some places you could only watch an hour on a particular day , others were unlimited. Alot of them were crappy copies with Asian subtitles at the bottom. Okay If you had it on while doing something else and were mainly listening but for things with effects not the best solution. Alot of it depends on the speed of your Internet your paitence and brokeness

I like Anya and Kimberly, and I liked Anthony Ryan. I'm excited to see what Anya and Kimberly would do for a collection.

I guess the one I'm pulling for now is Anya. I don't care as much about her as I did Mondo last season, but I do like her and her story and think she's the most interesting designer. I was really glad to see Piperlime take Burt's dress too, though, because it was my favorite piece in that whole episode.

Youtube gets a LOT of videos posted, and unless something is reported it's likely to slip past their filtering staff. There are also ways to avoid the copyrights, such as modifying the original content enough or using only clips. Not to mention if the copyright holders also give permission for Youtube to host it, then it doesn't matter who uploads it, they can and will keep it. New broadcast companies tend to give the rights to Youtube more freely, some public TV shows will also give the rights to Youtube to display a copy. Copyrights are not as black and white as people may believe, there are nuances and ways to avoid them that many are unaware of.

If you are in doubt, report it as a possible violation of the copyright, if there is actually a violation then they will remove it .... when they get around to it. Just remember it's not an instantaneous thing because of the number of videos uploaded to Youtube daily now.
