I'd have to go with Episode #1 "Ghost Train", with a wide eyed young Lukas Haas (the episode was released the same year as his appearance in Witness with Harrison Ford) and Roberts Blossom as Old Pa, the family's live-in grandfather.

It had a real big screen quality Spielberg movie feel to the production of the final scene when the train runs right through the family's new home.

Interesting to Note: Roberts Blossom just passed away this July 8th (two months ago) at the age of 87

Correction to your description of "The Mission" plot: The cartoonist gunner in the episode was trapped in the belly turret of a B-17.

That depends where you are, how close you are to the broadcast antennas, and what kind of line of sight you have.

I'm on the western shoulder of Capitol Hill, roughly due east of the Queen Anne towers and north of the Madison towers. I tried a couple of amplified (plug-in) rabbit-ear-plus-dish type things and could not get a consistent signal. Turns out I was exacerbating what amounted to a signal echo chamber.

So I went lower power and got this guy, and as cheesy as it looks, it works like a champ:

PBS and Fox/JoeTV/Antenna TV come in fine from the Madison towers, and I get KOMO, KING, KIRO, the CW, KONG, and some Asian channels (44-x) from the QA towers.

Yes, I'm one acquaintance away from them, because I work in webseries, too. They have high production values, great corporate sponsors, and a loyal fan base. They're a wonderful success story for the democratization of television!

I would have to put in a plug for Joss Whedon's Firefly series and the wrap up movie, Serenity. This is a hugely under-appreciated work that has great sets, effects and marvelous scripts/writing. The DVD box set is easy to find for a good price, as well as the movie on Ebay.

Doctor Who. For sure.

Because his fan base is a niche audience. Not everyone enjoys hus brand of writing. And while it's all very not everyone "gets" it.

Because;

1. Life is not fair.
2. There is no god.
3. If god wanted JW shows to succeed he would have given people taste.
4. There is an insidious plot against me.

I could go on, but that's the general idea.

Part of firefly's issues was fox's moronic decision to air them out of order. Of coursethats gonna confuse viewers and keep all but the die hards from watching...

Firefly? Dunno.
Dollhouse? Because it was quite awful.

I was going to say that it has to do with what you're watching.

If it's the live TV News at 6 p.m., the closed captioning is NOT what they are saying...it's the script that was written for them to read. As long as someone controlls the teleprompter at a regular speed, it keeps up with their lips. But if they are distracted, and aren't watching the pre-recorded story along with you, the viewer, then it can be pretty useless at times.

But, if it's an entertainment program, that should be pretty much in synch.

However, if it's a rapid fire movie like "Scarface" or Robin Williams Live on stage for HBO, there's no human way to keep up with the words pouring out of their mouths... and some choices have to be made what to actually include, and where to "cut corners" to make the captioning simpler or to actually fit.

If all the other channels are fine, they've just miscalibrated the sync. Let them know and they can adjust the CC timing by a few MS. It could still be a client issue, if it's not just an over the air signal and you're getting the feed from a cable/DVR box.

Charles, I see you have a Mac in your reply to The StainMaster - there is already a way to DVR shows on your computer and watch them with the roku, but the quality might not be that great. I don't know anything about it but can point you in the right direction:

You'll need a private channel from thenowhereman.com - Nowhere DVR. Also check out some of the other nowhereman offerings - we have both Nowhere TV and the Newscaster on our roku, and I watch the Newscaster a lot, particularly the al Jazeera live stream. They're all free.

You'll need an EyeTV tuner for your computer - there's one for $100 that looks like it would work. Nowhere DVR only works with the EyeTV program. I found this video that's kind of helpful: How to turn your roku into a DVR.

Also, it looks like you need both the computer and the roku on a wireless network.

I would like to set up our system to DVR shows, but right now we're saving money to replace our ancient TV. Between Netflix, Amazon Prime instant video, and Hulu+, we haven't really missed having cable; sometimes I just want to watch NOVA or something else not available right now through the roku channels.
