  2 0 I'll stick with the grapefruit as well and recommend a: Hemingway Daiquiri (aka Papa Doble Daiquiri) 1½ oz Light Rum (Havana Club) ½ oz Grapefruit Juice ½ oz Maraschino Liqueur ½ oz Lime Juice ½ oz Simple Syrup Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a martini glass.   Broth-based cocktails?

  0 0 The answer below is close to where I would lead you. A drink called the "Bloody Bull" is a bloody mary, or maria with a whole bouillon cube mixed into it, popular in Texas.   How do whisky and eggs go together?

  1 0 Seems like Justin covered it, just wanted to add a simple rum flip recipe. Think of this as building a simple eggnog. Everyone likes spiked eggnog... I really really really do! Rum Flip (there are many variations) 2 ounces of an aged rum like flor de cana 5 year 1 whole egg 1/4 oz 1:1 simple syrup or to taste Combine all into a shaker and shake like it like it owes you money to emulsify the egg.   If CostCo's liquor initiative passes, who will open our first truly great liquor store?

  5 0 I have a great plan for one. It will have tastings and distillery speakers, etc, etc... but I wanted to make sure people know there is a difference between the TWO (2) ballots. There is I-1100 (the Costco one) and I-1105 (that's the one we want) Costco's backed plan doesn't leave a lot of room for "small" liquor stores. There is plenty of info online, here's a quote from the P.I. Neuman's I-1105 would allow private businesses to be licensed and begin selling spirits on Nov. 1 of next year; all state liquor stores would have to close by 2012. This measure directs the Liquor Control Board to set a "reasonable annual license fee" and also tells the agency to recommend a new tax rate to the Legislature by Jan. 1 of next year. The measure says the new tax rate should allow the state to recoup the same amount of money it makes now, with an aim to making even more.   Can you buy "quinine bitters" so I can make a non-high fructose corn syrup with less than half the sugar homemade tonic for my gin?

  7 0 Not to my knowledge is there a strictly quinine bitters. There are bitters with higher contents of it but what you are looking for I think is a quinine “tincture”. A tincture is an extraction of only one flavor, bitters is essentially multiple tinctures. You can do something fun and simple to get what you are looking for. Go to Tenzing Momo in the Pike Place Market and buy this. Its cinchona bark, quinine is extracted from it. Put 4 cups of water to ½ cup cinchona bark. Bring to a boil and let cool. Once cool you need to filter the bark out which is really really fine, a French press works, also coffee filters. Now you have “quinine water” do with it what you wish. Add some sugar and citrus and you have…. Tonic water. Quinine Tincture could be had by letting 1 cup of really any high proof spirit, try a very high proof vodka, sit in a mason jar with ¼ cup cinchona bark. Infuse to taste, probably at least a couple days to a week or two then fine strain like mentioned above and you will have something in the ballpark of Quinine Bitters.   Where in Seattle do I find "The Bitter Truth" bitters?
