I keep going back to Seattle Cycle, as they've kept me generally pretty happy. Call first and ask the mechanic if the '68 is out of their scope; if it is they'll recommend somebody else, perhaps either Jim's Southend or Twinline Motorcycles, though I don't know either well. Vallantine Motor Works just north of the Aurora bridge is worth checking out -- nobody seems to talk about them much but they've been there for years.

I'm sorry, but changing your oil twice as often as you need to is not cheap insurance. It's just consuming twice as much oil as you need and giving you a false sense of security.

Far better to put your time and money into other maintenance, like checking your tire pressure more often, doing the other lube and check maintenance in your owner's manual -- as scheduled, not more -- or if nothing else, merely looking at your engine and seeing if anything as fallen off since last time.

Throwing out good oil is not intelligent behavior.

Indeed, just follow the owner's manual for your car.

It probably shouldn't be said -- because if you're of them you don't need advice -- but under severe conditions you need to change oil far more often. For example, if you're doing weekends at the racetrack with a motorcycle, you change it every weekend. That's 3 *days*/300 miles! Versus 12 months/6,000 miles for the same bike on the street.

But if you're driving your car hard enough on the street to truly need new oil every 3,000 miles... well, you probably don't have a driver's license any more, and oil changes are the least of your problems.

It's good to hear you're feeling frustrated about things, Bailo. Naturally, I deduce that you must be a pretty miserable guy, but don't we all too often take other people's feelings for granted? It's nice to hear you say the words.

I don't have an answer but, balderdash, can I ask how they managed to get $500 in tickets? Is that like a dozen unpaid tickets in a row?

Is this from trying to feed meters all day while they're at work? Parking without paying at all and trusting their luck?

How come after say, the first 5 or 6 tickets they kept doing it? No choice?

Like I said, sociologists don't have a whole lot to say of any relevance to people in the real world. This type of leveling of differences and insipid relativism doesn't do any harm other than making everyone ignore you.

That's like saying you can't use the word shit because some people call things they don't like "shit", even though they're not real shit.

The question was, is Mars Hill a *real* cult, or is it just a church people don't like? There might not be proof that they're a real cult at the moment, but the smart money says some day they're going to be passing the kool aid around.

You know where that kool aid saying comes from? It was not from some sect that some people merely disliked -- it refers to one of the cultyest cults that every flew the cult flag over their crazy, cult compound.

Everyone knows that religious fanatics have committed mass suicide many times, as well as taken over the lives of their followers and driven them to many other wretched ends short of suicide. Normal people have a word for these groups: cults.

The fact that sociologists define "cults" out of existence doesn't make these groups disappear. It only makes people not care what sociologists have to say.
