  • Where can I buy TABASCO Buffalo Style Hot Sauce in Seattle?
    Lookalikes_small

I've seen it at Top Foods, but that was way the hell out in Lakeland Hills. Still, the Top Foods nearer the city may have it as well, or other Haggen stores.

  • Were you able to read any of Dennis Dale's posts on the slog, you know other than the short ones?

Able, but not willing. Conciseness is a gift. Apparently a rare one.

  • Antidepressants in the long-term?
    Lookalikes_small

I'd advise talking to your doc about the side effects. There are plenty of other effective antidepressants on the market that don't cause those issues. Wellbutrin is particularly helpful for those who don't want to suffer from impaired libido. The drawback of changing meds is the delay before they take effect: most antidepressants take several weeks to work.

Long-term - well, define long-term. I have friends who've been on the same ADs for more than 10 years. My oldest sister has been on tricyclic ADs for more than 30 years, I kid you not. Two years is nothing. The long-term effect I've seen with most people is that that particular med stops being effective. I was on Serzone for more than 7 years myself before it quit working. Switching to another med corrected the problem.

Rather than going off meds altogether right now, I'd aim for finding a medication you can live with for a few years. When you can find one that allows you to gradually titrate your dosage downward without noticeable increase in your depression, then you can think about getting off the meds. Untreated depression is generally going to be more dangerous for you than most meds.

I'm off all ADs now (although I still take an anti-anxiety med), but it took me more than 25 years. I didn't become addicted or anything like that, it's that it took that long before my depression didn't recur almost immediately on stopping the drugs.

Talk to the doc. Tell them the Prozac is too speedy and it's killing your sex drive. Ask to try something else. There are dozens of other options.

  • Favorite local scenic drives?
    Lookalikes_small

Take the ferry over to Bainbridge, have lunch and poke around there, then drive up to the Hood Canal Bridge and go across to the peninsula, drive up to Port Townsend, have dinner there (and preferably stay there - lots of nice places to stay), then drive back around the long way (Bremerton/Narrows Bridge).

My answer would be very different in summer, but my favorite drives mostly are either routes that are closed or very snowy right now.

  • Bomb shelters / fallout shelters of Seattle: where are they / is there a map, or book of these?
    Lookalikes_small

I can't find one online, but I'll bet these guys know where they are:

  • Recommendations for a mattress shopper?
    Lookalikes_small

Having bought many new mattress sets and different types of beds in my life, I can say my best experience has been at the Macy's Home Store (down by Southcenter). They have a really wide selection of quality bedding, the most knowledgeable salespeople I've encountered, and no high-pressure sales tactics. They're nearly always having sales.

There is no one best type of mattress for everyone. You really need to lie on the beds, preferably together. Take your preferred pillow. Take shoes you can easily slip off. The Macy's store will let you do that. A bed that feels divine to one person will leave another in agony, so you truly have to try them for yourself.

Get the largest bed you can; it helps a lot to avoid being awakened by your partner's movements during the night.

  • Is there any kind of career path or job where regular attendance and punctuality are not a requirement?
    Lookalikes_small

Generally, work that you do alone, either creating stuff (artist, craftsperson, writer), assembling stuff (stuffing envelopes), or transcribing stuff (medical transcriptionists). Damn few jobs where one is supposed to show up at a specific location allow for much in the way of flexibility. Some do, of course, but they're hard to find and those of us who do find them hold onto them like sheer death because we know we'll never find another one like them.

There used to be a lot more jobs for people who picked up Dictaphone tapes and typed 'em up at home. There are still some, mostly in the medical field, but they're harder to find.

  • Is there such a thing as reverse-body dysmorphic disorder?
    Lookalikes_small

When I look in a mirror, I tend to "adjust" myself so my reflection doesn't look grotesque. Because I don't see myself in the camera's viewfinder, the camera captures the slumped posture, the wrinkled clothing, the bizarre facial expression, the unflattering details that I rearrange myself to avoid in a mirror. For instance, I almost never look in a mirror without immediately standing up straighter and sucking in my gut, lifting my chin to get rid of the extra chins lurking beneath, changing my expression so I don't look tired and old, etc.

I'm vain enough to have been known to do all this in a mirror before allowing a photograph to be taken. But still, I hate posing for photographs and I hate nearly every picture ever taken for me. I'm convinced I look better than *that*!

  • Cheap present ideas for the obligatory presents-exchange? No, CHEAP
    Lookalikes_small

Calendars! I usually get half a dozen free calendars from various organizations I support, local stores, etc., and some of them are quite nice. Everyone needs at least one calendar.

Even if you have to buy them, you can get them for as little as $5 apiece. Calendars.com has quite a huge selection.

I refuse to participate in mandatory gift exchanges, myself. I only exchange gifts with people I actually want to give gifts to.

  • It seems like (from a very small sample) guys are somewhat willing and, dare I say, proud to post nude pics of themselves...why?
    Lookalikes_small

It's easier for a guy to take a picture of his junk than it is for a woman to take a picture of hers. However, I know of very few women who actually wish to receive photographs of men's penises. This is apparently news to many men.
