Look for a source where a small animal, rodent or such could have crawled in an died.

We've always found shell no-pest strips to be extremely helpful!

Could also be that they've got it hemmed in by contractual obligations on either side, and didn't see the hour long format coming down the pike at them.
Obviously splitting it in two on two different days is not the best solution, but public affairs and network news public affairs programs are extremely low priority for the local station. They basically "run themselves" without any attention paid to them.
Obviously some people like Russ get very worked up over them, and they SHOULD vent their frustration over the programming decision. It's the way that things get done. That, and if a paying sponsor wants to complain or offer to sponsor it in the full hour format, you bet that it would be fixed PRONTO! Money talks in a commercial TV station.

  • What possesses the decision makers at KIROTV (Channel 7 - CBS affiliate) to split the now hour Face The Nation program into two separate half hours?

More commercial availabilities, and the possibility that they are videotape delaying the show, so that they need two tapes and have time to rewind it. Or is it live? Perhaps there's an option to break away or to split the show for more commercials?

They may be thrice damned, but those child proof drawer/door locks also kept our cupboards closed from prying cats as well! I swear by them, and yes, they do wear out.

I thought you might use a bunge cord to secure the knife block against the back of your counter, but you probably want a more secure idea.

Is anyone planning a Solar Eclilpse viewing party this Sunday?

Actually, you can manufacture your own...sort of.
You need any combination of welders' glass (that normally would slide into the traditional welder's helmet) that totals at least 14.

That is, you could combine two 7's, an 8 & 6, three 5s, etc.

As long as the value of the glass totals at least 14, you should be safe to view the eclipse through the glass.

Now, and even safer way to view the eclipse, is either through television (the weather channel or other science-oriented channel that will handle it) or make yourself a pin-hole camera.

You can do this by either poking a small round hole in one end of a shoe box and looking at the pin-hole of light that falls on the far wall of the box..... or, punch a small round hole in a paper plate, and use that one to shade another white paper plate, and look at the image that falls on the white plate.

That way you are not actually looking at the sun, but at the focused image of the sun which is projected onto a viewing screen/plate/wall reflector.

May I suggest you speak with the contractor in person or directly, to see what he's willing to do for you before you go to extremes? If he's at all responsible, he'll want to understand and make adjustment. But you're right to review your options. Just don't go there right out of the box. He might be a nice guy who needs an opportunity to set it right.

You know, the official navel observatory prints up and calculates the exact time for this regardless of weather, local conditions, based upon the horizon at any particular latitude and longitude. Wouldn't that work for you?

I found though the trans-atlantic flight was virtually packed, and that I had to settle for what I was assigned, the return flight was open enough that many people put up the armrests and stretched out across four seats and slept like on a couch. However, I asked for an exit row seat and was denied, but they offered to check on a bulkhead seat after they determined how many infants were on the flight (none) and so, the wife and I enjoyed extra leg room, just for asking. We dozed, but it wasn't as good as I dream first class might be. Still, those who ask, get...

I would guess that it would be clear and dry, low humidity, an arid desert climate.
