  • Is it okay to play some Christmas music at a Thanksgiving dinner?
    Wayne_small

It's your party and you can play whatever music you want to. You have an idea as to whether or not any of your company would be offended or annoyed by your selections. I think any of the more neutral holiday music that isn't specifically Christmas story would be best. However the holiday season is officially heralded in by Thanksgiving day so again in the end it's up to you.

  • Do you feel safer living in a house or an apartment?
    Wayne_small

I feel safer living in a *small* apartment building with no more than four other apartments. I like to know who my neighbors are. Big buildings contain too many unknowns. Not just all the renters but all the people those renters may be letting in. And a house just by itself can feel a bit creepy unless you're sharing with a bunch of other folks.

  • Where do you land on the Klein Grid?
    Wayne_small

Good question. 80% gay/20% straight. I think the survey is a little skewed as so many people's adolescent behaviors differ from their adult/ideal ones.

  • Shouldn't Jesus be a saint?
    Wayne_small

Like B said. Saints are humans who are really really good according to the tenets of Catholicism. Jesus on the other hand by those same tenets is not human. (Fully man and fully God but not *human*) It'd be a little bit like nominating Yahweh for sainthood.

  • What should I do if she has a really small/almost useless clit?
    Wayne_small

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clitoris

Read the article for starters. Most of the clit is internal and they get bigger when stimulated properly sometimes a lot bigger. Be careful that she hasn't had too much to drink as that makes it harder for nerve endings to respond. And how could you even say that her clit is useless? Did she say it? You wouldn't know if it was useless, it's not your clit. So talk with her about what she likes same as with any other sex partner.

  • Does anyone else think Loveschild might be Mr. Poe?
    Wayne_small

This doesn't exactly answer your question but I think loveschild is for real. Her arguments and the way she makes them are very familiar to me. She's a product of the shitty american public education system, homophobic religious institutions that have been key to the survival of a persecuted minority and lots and lots of film and tv that depicts "gay" people as depraved sociopaths.

  • When does one become a 'grown up'?
    Wayne_small

I think becoming a grown up is some combination of taking responsibility for one's choices good and bad but also developing a sense of perspective and proportion. Being focussed enough to go forward with your goals while realizing that the world isn't all about you. Also a strong sense of empathy is important while at the same time knowing that you can't even begin to know why other people are the way they are and it really isn't your job to figure them out. I think "becoming a grown up" can happen at any age or not at all depending on a person's life and experiences.

  • What are some strategies to remain sane at my workplace for another 6 months as I transition to a new job?
    Wayne_small

I have had some experience with the incoherent and unreasonable. Best strategy I've found is not to take anything personally. Let go of any ideas of "reason" or "efficiency". If your boss has a goal, it may be one entirely different from the one you suppose. Think of it as a kind of bizarre game and that maybe the person you're dealing with is a little crazy, like a kooky mother-in-law. Just put one foot in front of the other focusing on what you want to achieve. (Continued employment and less stress.)Also build savings so that if you have to quit (for your mental health) or get fired before your next job starts you'll have something to supplement unemployment payments.

  • Do you wash your feet when taking a shower?
    Wayne_small

No, not usually. Foot washing only comes into play when I've been at the beach or have worn sandals through a dirty hike. Whatever soils my feet after a day at the office I assume rinses off as I wash the rest of me in the shower. As far as what my cubicle does to my soul I don't think that can be washed off.

  • What's the deal with the gays and sci-fi?
    Wayne_small

We're dreamers. We like to imagine other ways of being, other civilizations, other histories, different kinds of norms. Also a lot of sci-fi plays around with motifs about social change and acceptance.
