  • Pacifiers: yea or nay?
    Avatar_default

ten weeks! yes, yes yes on the pacifier. as much as she wants/needs now, and later on you can restrict its use to sleep only, until you eventually take it away.

it's nearly unheardof for babies to switch to their thumbs after giving up the pacifiers, so you don't have to worry about that. when they give them up they have a few rough nights and then they're done with it. and nobody ever had to pop the pacifier out to kiss the bride. as long as it's not constant when she's older you have nothing, NOTHING to worry about.

ten weeks old - you have so much else to think of right now ... don't worry yourself with this. it comforts her when she needs comforting, and that is the most important thing behind food at this point in her life. self soothing comes later when you have to let her put herself back to sleep. for now just enjoy your new baby!

  • If you had a daughter, would you let her become a cheerleader if she wanted to?

i would hope that my daughter wouldn't want to, but i know i am bringing a lot of my own history to the discussion - the cheerleaders at my HS were right out of central casting. the meatheads who pursued them were also. so i would not want to see her get caught up in that clique. but you know your daughter better then anyone (certainly better than we) and can gauge her motivations better than anyone. what is she hoping to gain from the experience? popularity? or is it to have a fun athletic thing to do with her friends? once you get a satisfying answer as to the "why," i think you will know if it's something you should allow.

    PS how old is she?

agreed. you will know. and as stated above, you can include her by asking that she talk to her mother and offering to back her up.

added bonus to having them close together - the second labor/delivery is a breeze :-) at least i assume that's why it was a breeze. could have just been lucky.

  • What is your favorite song about science and/or math?
    Avatar_default

    schoolhouse rock!

but even better is the wfmu-fm collection called "greasy kid stuff." there are multiple volumes, but volume one is my personal favorite. it's not all math and/or science, but there are a few ... mostly it's just hilarious awesomeness.

  • One kid or two?

mine are 10 and 11 (13 months apart, a boy (older) and a girl). my relationship with my siblings has always been either negative or non-existent. as a result, i always, always said i only ever wanted one. but after my son was born we went to visit my husband's family. as i watched my husband with his brother talking about when they were kids, i knew right then and there that i wanted a second one ~ someone my son could not only spend but look back on his childhood with. before i knew it i was pregnant again, and my son was barely up on his feet when the second one came along. so, just like twins, these two have never really known life without each other, and they are extremely bonded to one another.

i definitely, definitely recommend two, and the closer in age the better. not only will they be more bonded to one another, but you will be able to resume the other parts of your life sooner, and you won't be running in two directions for the whole time they're in your house. they can enjoy a lot of the same things and keep a similar schedule if they are developmentally close to one another.

i got a real 50s cutie at red light several years ago, and as i recall, there was a wide selection both style-wise and size-wise. good luck!
