About YarniaPDX

Ask me about yarn & knitting!

Lindsey is the owner of Yarnia, in Portland, Oregon. Yarnia is the only place where you can design your very own custom blend of yarn. You choose the fiber, color, thickness, and amount, and can have your custom cone of yarn wound for you right on the spot. (www.yarniapdx.com)

I've seen the twisted stitch used in patterns before to give a unique look to the pattern (i.e. are you familiar with Stephen West's patterns at all? The Windschief does this), so I'd try out a little swatch using the two different methods and see which one you like best!

This is how I've always seen SSK translated as well. It would effectively give the same result as slip/stitch/pass (by decreasing 1 stitch) but would visually look a little different. Not sure what the pattern in question is trying to achieve by twisting that top stitch...

Make your own sprouts! Cut the feet off the tights (or even a strip from the middle of the tights, 5-6 inches in height) and they work perfectly for fitting over the mouth of a jar and using to drain your sprouts after rinsing them, so they stay moist while they sprout, but don't start to rot from excess water.

Do you knit? Fingerless gloves can be a fantastic (and very quick!) little project to make, en masse, and use very little yarn (usually only 200 yards, max).

Also, a basic ribbed hat can be a great little gift for men or women, and also much faster (and less yarn-consuming) than, say, a scarf.

We'll be selling kits for both at the Urban Craft Uprising this weekend!
