  Victoria BC - Trendy Neighborhoods/Shops/Restaurants?

  0 0 Yeah, not trendy, more classy....a great little restaurant called Bistro L'Ecole or something has a great bar and excellent frenchish food. Also, there's an oyster bar in Chinatown - upstairs - Fulton's or something? And I always have a cocktail in the Bengal Room at the Empress. Colonialist cocktails are always in style!   The Perfect Sangria

  1 0 Your problem may have been that you used a wine that was to tannic. Start with a softer, fruitier wine, like tempranillo or grenache. Then, add your fruits - good oranges with thinner skins, not the ones with big pithy skins - those can be bitter too. Lemons, limes, grapes, watermelon, etc. let it sit in your fridge for a day - I don't usually add any sugar or simple syrup, but test it - you may have a sweet tooth...I also like white wine sangria - with lemons, limes, orange, maybe a few chunks of canteloupe.   2 0 Lots of options! Pour it over ice cream, of course. Or, use it in a champagne cocktail - just a float on top of a glass of champagne. Put a bit in whipped cream to color and flavor it, especially over a warm brownie! Use it in cocktails like you would Chambord. Use in in a reduced sauce w stock and butter - over pork or poultry...   Good meal to cook for a third date?

  3 0 I love to make braised short ribs and/or oxtail. EASY and amazing. Sear off the meat, remove. saute mirepoix (onion/celery/carrot chopped fine). Put the meat back into a deep cast iron pot, pour in half bottle of red wine (Sangiovese - ish), then tomato paste and some broth. Into the oven at 350 for 2.5 hours (I'd check a recipe, too)...This is MUCH better the next day! Then I roast a few root vegetables and a beet salad with goat cheese and nuts to start.
