  • What is the deal with the property @ Harvard/Madison/Broadway?
    404_small

If I understand you correctly, you're talking about the triangle piece of property to the South of the Polyclinic between Harvard and Broadway. That's owned by the Polyclinic, and there are no DDES permits currently on file, so it looks like there are no plans for now.

  • When floating down Green River, where are good launch/end points?
    404_small

I don't think the green is the best choice to float. Growing up in Kent, I was told that the Green isn't friendly to floaters/swimmers because it has an undertow that makes it dangerous. I could be misinformed though. Additionally, there are lots of areas where brush hangs over the bank, making it difficult to push off if the current took you toward the edge.

I've floated the Snoqualmie before, which is nice and relaxing. You can put in just after the falls. I think we got out at William F McCormick Park in Duvall, which made for kind of a long trip at 5 hours or so. It's been a few years though, so I could be mistaken.

  • Who else gardens/grows things in the city?

your jalapenos, tomatoes, and basil are going to want a lot of sun. i've tried to grow peppers for the last 2 years and haven't been able to get decent sized fruit because they can't get like 12 hours of sun per day.

depending on what type of tomato plant you have, you may consider pruning to get rid of any new suckers as they grow. I like to keep my plants to 3 vines. The reasoning is that if you prune the suckers, the plant will focus less energy on creating vines and more energy on putting out fruit. Here's an article: http://gardening.about.com/od/totallytomatoes/qt/Tomato_Suckers.htm

give the seattle tilth gardening hotline a call with any questions, they're very knowledgeable and provide a great service to the city: (206) 633-0224 or you can also submit questions online now: http://www.seattletilth.org/learn/hotline/question-for-the-garden-hotline-1

you can also go to your local p-patch on any given sunny day and talk to some of the gardeners there. Most will be happy to chat about their tips and tricks.

    good luck!

  • What's a good affordable/walkable neighborhood for a guy in his early 20's?
    404_small

prices are still trending down- capitol hill is down 18.1% in the last year, about 30% off the peak, and there's no indication that the trend will change anytime soon. Why not sit tight and see how much lower things go? Maybe set a trigger point, like when YoY prices have flattened.

  • What is the best type of protein supplement?
    404_small

i use NOW Whey Protein from bodybuilding.com their prices are pretty cheap, quick shipping. I like the now stuff because there's no artificial additives. I only use it as a breakfast shake each morning, so i can't speak to its 'bulking up' effectiveness.

I mix about 3/4 scoop of the vanilla flavor and 1 tsp of fiber with orange juice and milk. It kinda has that Orange Julius flavor. quick and easy.
