  If you had a daughter, would you let her become a cheerleader if she wanted to?

  0 0 I am grateful for a conversation my mom had with me when I asked about trying out to be a cheerleader: why would you want to be a cheerleader when you could be doing something people are cheering for?   Do I have a duty to help care for extended family in this case?

  1 0 I agree, but another alternative depending on your financial situation if you wanted to contribute (not obligatory) would be to hire a caregiver to help out for a day or two, or even regularly, all depending on your financial situation. Or recognize your parents with a gift of a massage for them or something similar, and maybe talk to them about what is best for their health.   Tips on making an impact when speaking at a school board meeting?

  0 0 Start with an anecdote that you think helps to illustrate what you are about to talk about. Keep it relatively brief, but descriptive. This will help get an audien'ces' attention, pulling them into a story. Have bullet points outlined you can refer to which organizes your talk (per the comments above), but don't read a script. Use eye contact. Don't let yourself get emotional or pass blame, even if you get harsh questions at the end.   Can anyone suggest a good online community for parents in the Seattle area?

  0 0 There are great email distribution lists in each neighborhood- just ask another parent at a coffeeshop!   My nine-year-old would like to try skiing, but I don't want to break the bank, and I haven't been in years. Where should I take her?

  0 0 The best deal out there for a 9 year old is Crystal mountain, where kids under 10 ski FREE! There are some super packages out there that make skiing at your son's age really accessible. Among them is Mission Ridge just outside Wenatchee, where kids 7-12 pay just $34 for a lift ticket, 6th graders ski free, and students in grades 7-12 demonstrating a 3.0 GPA can get lift tickets for $28! (see their website for details). Mt. Baker has some great deals, too.
