Is it a lamppost or a postmodern tree?

I'm new here and don't really know what's going on. Thanks for answering my questions and I hope to someday know Seattle well enough to help others.

I do know that I never got to checked out by wildlife on my drive to work, back where I came from.

Whenever I see the Eagle on the 405, I feel moved enough to sing a… more »

  • How to ride public busses from Seattle to Portland?
    Eagle_small

I thought I might update this answer in case someone has the same question: there is a new (as of 5-2012) service called the Bolt Bus. Tickets vary, but are cheaper than greyhound or Amtrack. Some of their tickets only cost $1. I got two round trip tickets for 2 for $40 for MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND! They also have a great loyalty program, 8 trips (each way) = 1 trip free! I'd definitely check it out!

Voodoo doughnuts. Portlandia. Everything is a bit cheaper. No sales tax. Even More bike friendly.

Other than that... I got nothing.

(ps when you get homesick for Seattle, have a friend stop by Pcc in the fall and send you one coupon for Amtrack) They typically start handing them out around October of each year and expire in April of the next year)

Hi Olivia, getting ready for the heat? I'm a former 'zonie myself.

    There's an Ikea in Chandler.

Also ASU is about to let out, meaning lots of seniors are about to move out and sell their stuff, so if it's expense you are concerned about this might be your best bet.

  • Are there any good places to walk to in Bellevue for a break during the day?
    Eagle_small

What area of Bellevue are you working in? Bellevue is rather large.
Im going to assume that you are in the downtown area, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Downtown Park is a lovely little area across from the mall.

Meydenbayur (sp?) Park is a nice strip of land on the lake. (also close to the mall)

Robert McCormic Park is just north of the library and has a nice little path.

If you are willing to take a short drive down Bellevue Way, the Mercer Slough Nature Park is about a 5 minute drive south of downtown. This is a much bigger area and lots of paths. Very peaceful.

  • Best movie theatre, not-Cinerama...?
    Eagle_small

I love the Landmark theaters with all of my cinephile heart. They aren't the most "plush" upscale experience and they don't have all of the uber sorround sound stuff, but I absolutely love being in these old movie palaces. My favorite theatre might be 7 Gables in the U District. It has this beautiful Regency Hollywood lobby and chandeliers within the theatre. I'm picky about movies I spend my money to see, but on bad days I'm willing to see anything just to be in that building.
When it comes to films that are out, we do find ourselves in the inberween season (between oscar bait and blockbusters) but one film I can recommend that is out now is Jiro Dreams of Sushi at the Egyptian in Capitol Hill (another beautiful historic movie palace.) it is a documentary about the world's most famous sushi chef. I found it sweet, thoughtful, and funny at times. The Artist is still showing at Harvard Exit (another very sweet old Landmark Theater) and in my opinion, it is not only one of the best films in decades but should be seen on the big screen. The Exit's ambiance only adds to the charm and delight of the film. But, if you are into loudness, special effects, or chick flicks, (hate documentaries and silent films) ignore all of the advice above. I dont want to come off as a snob, but I also don't want you to be bored or not have an enjoyable experience at the cinema. :)

I had a red (Mao) and a blue beta (HH Tenzin Ghatzo)!! I liked to think that HH was deflecting the mean stares of Mao with thoughts of compassion. (I loved your post because it made me believe that perhaps I wasn't crazy for my exuberance on the subject. :)
