How best to follow up on job postings with no contact info?

  • Comment on Dan Williams's answer…

"Your best course of action is to go with the agency that contacted you first or the one that offers the best benefit and wage package."

That issue is one of the primary reasons I thought I should have both agencies submit me for the job; to make sure they get the best wage/benefits deal for me. But if they don't offer that information before submitting me as a candidate for the job, there's no way for me to make an informed choice; I may as well flip a coin. Going with the first one that sent me the job posting seems to me that it amounts to the same thing.

The last thing I want to do is ruin my chances with a potential resource in this awful economy. But if I don't have more than one agency working for me on a lead, do I have any sort of leverage, in my position? Before posting the original question, I thought I would take an approach like capicola's, but if I'm understanding you, it sounds like that would possibly burn my bridges with both, even if I am honest and tell one agency that the other guys have already submitted me.

Staffing agency exclusivity agreements: something to agree to, or ignore?

  • Does UW School of Nursing require students to undergo drug testing for clinical placements?

I asked a relative who's an RN who works at a hospital, and she tells me that they will require it if you work at a hospital. As far as a clinic, she's pretty sure they'll require it there too, but since she's only ever worked in hospitals (and started before drug testing was the norm), she can't say for sure.

Got it! Thanks! It was searching for "ergc" in the registry that found it.

Just in case it will help anyone else, on both her Vista machine (and my Win 7) it was located at:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Electronic Arts > Sims > The Sims 3 > ergc

How can I find my software's serial number through the registry?

Unless things have drastically changed since I graduated from AiS about 6 years ago, I wouldn't be so hasty in advising him to go there.

I was about a year in to my degree (in animation, not in video production) when the school sought to be accredited, and it lost many of its best instructors because of it. They had no interest in becoming certified teachers; they taught--and many of us chose the school--because they were skilled in and currently working in their respective field, teaching part-time. Spending the time and money training to get a teaching degree would have been a drain on them, so they just quit. The school was not the same after they took off.

These are not just my own opinions, either. I have subsequently met about a dozen other AiS alum who feel the same way I did about their experience, and those sentiments were widely shared by classmates while we were still in school.

Also, just a general rule: Don't believe anything you're told by an admissions officer. Seriously.

How often do you plan to do these sessions here on Questionland?

I cannot more heartily recommend George R.R. Martin if you have interest in the fantasy genre. He's written some Sci Fi as well, but I'm not nearly so familiar with those as I am with his "Song of Ice and Fire" series. (If it makes any difference to you, HBO is currently working on making a series based on his books, one season per novel.)

Sadly, only the first and fourth book are read by John Lee. Ignore the whiners on Audible that say he's not as good as Roy Dotrice; they're insane. He'll occasionally pronounce a common word funny (and I don't think his English accent enters into it), but that's it. Roy Dotrice only seems capable of about five character voices, and four of them are awful. This--to me--makes the second and third book hard to listen to. Also, Martin is only about halfway through writing this series, and the gods only know when the next book will come out.

  • My nephew is turning 5 on Saturday, and his clueless uncle has no idea what to give, and a small budget to spend... suggestions?

As the months grow warmer, a boy's thoughts inevitably turn toward the prospect of blasting his unprotected friends with water. So my vote is Super Soaker. You can get plenty of of their products for less than $20, even get a pair in some cases. (And looking at those "Shot Blast" Super Soaker models makes me want one.)

Or maybe you could go with Nerf products, considering you can get more ammo/replacement ammo pretty cheaply too, in case the family dog gets ahold of 'em.
