  • Is there anywhere in Seattle where one can buy a King Cake?
    Ht00073a01_small

I've never ever heard of a King Cake until now, thank you. I love the plastic baby element, you crazy Cajuns! Now I want some.
You may want to check around Seattle's creole restaurants, maybe they'd make one specially for you, especially around Mardi Gras time which is just around the corner.

  • Is there actually any *legitimate* PT simpleton work one can do from home that doesn't involve laundering nigerian currency?

If you're crafty, or have a good eye for cool vintage stuff that people want and have a digital camera and some good photography skills, you could sell stuff on etsy.
Lots of people are making a killing doing that these days! Good luck!

I'm so sorry you're going through that, it sounds familiar. Flu like symptoms? I know about the chest tightness and the dizzyness, it's because the body is finally getting some real oxygen for once. It shouldn't last long. It will ride itself out, and whatever you do, do not give in and light up. It will only prolong the withdrawals. Believe me, I know because I did this! I would so much rather go through a few days of horrendous withdrawals than the nausea, shame of falling off the wagon and lighting up again. Hope you're feeling better buddy!

I love that you mention chlorinated pools, you couldn't be more right! The vinegary things is pretty smart too, I also find that holds true for super spicy food too. Thanks!

  • Where can I find a decent, cheap area rug?
    Ht00073a01_small

Bed Bath & Beyond usually has a bunch of 8'x5'ers for around $30, plain as in no pattern but nice selection of colors.

  • Apartment help!

Ballard and Phinney Ridge are wonderful neighborhoods; folksy, lots of cute little boutiques that carry stuff from independent designers, a gazillion places to get a hair cut, TONS of great places to eat and very walkable. The costs of living in both of those area's are about equal to or less than Capitol Hill.

Downtown Ballard has it's own little music scene too- The Sunset (indie rock, punk rock, pop) The Tractor Tavern (alterna-country, rockabilly) are a couple of Ballard's mainstays and it's super safe and very female friendly.

Phinney Ridge is very quiet, cozy, great views, lots of nice looking old brick apartment buildings- a great place to rest your head after a night of seeing live music with tons of great 'morning after' breakfast options to boot. It has a zoo too! And walk down the steep hill and you got GREEN LAKE! The best place to get your exercise/fun in the sun on and lots of great eye candy.
    Gosh, now I'm getting jealous!

I live on 'edgy' Capitol Hill and I think it's more along the lines of "nice place to visit, but not a nice place to live" (crime, sirens, a crazy-drunk-people-screaming-outside-your-window-come-2am kinda place). The ratio of male to females seems to be 2-1 here, and honestly my overall sense of safety here has gone down considerably over the past couple of years. However! If you must live on the hill, I recommend any place near Pike and Pine, as that it's where it's at these days.

Well good luck, and tell us what you decided!

  • Where can I find cool wrapping paper in Capitol Hill?

This is coming super late but this might come in handy for future reference, try Whimsy on 13th & Pine or Retail Therapy on Pine and Harvard.

Quit smoking cigarettes cold turkey? What was it like?

  • Where do cougars go dancing?
    Ht00073a01_small

Kenmore, Bothell and Woodinville seem to have a pretty large population of Cougars, of both variety (the ones that kill, and the ones that thrill). I would check any of the bars in the suburbs that have live bands play there. I have lived in all three of those places and so I know what I'm talking about. They usually are found in packs, tend to be the loudest, danciest ones on the floor. Bachelorette parties and scrapbooking events are really good cougar hotspots also.

Micah I am proud to present you with this here Mushroom, the first of what I hope will be many to come for you during your residency here at Questionland. I really like your enthusiasm with Olympia and you really hit the nail on the head; I didn't know about the no-Amtrak-there-but-only-to-Lacey conundrum but now I do and that's very useful information. I lived there briefly when I was nine and don't remember much of it, but I have been thinking of reacquainting myself with the town of yore recently and you helped push me a little further in that direction. Thanks! x, e-pants
