+1 for Larry aka Perfect Wheels. He's a solid dude. I have both road and mountain wheels he's built for me.

Hmmm...I have to disagree with the helmet mount. I have a 900 lumen MagicShine ($150!) that I helmet-mount for MTB night-riding, but for the commuting I always bar-mount.

Blinding drivers is not a good recipe for safety.

You are right to be terrified. I'd get something good for campus or anywhere in the udistrict. And it doesn't hurt if your bike isn't the nicest one on the rack either. UW is the numero-uno hotspot for bike theft around here. Spend the money.

Up in Greenwood if you have a semi-decent cable-lock, you should be OK leaving it while you shop; but I wouldn't leave a bike locked up for more than a couple of hours pretty much anywhere.

Less than $200? Easy. Check out geomangear.com for BikeRay and MagicShine LED setups. The 900 lumen MagicShine is about $120.

I use mine for daily commuting and MTB night-riding in horrible winter conditions all the time with few problems. The helmet mount is better for trail, but handlebar mounted is way safer for street so that you're not high-beaming drivers.
