  Does the sediment/earth really become liquid-like during an earthquake or does it just seem like it?

See this handy wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soil_liquefaction Most freaky is that it can happen to soil layers below the top layer, allowing them to "boil up." This phenomenon is what terrorizes me about the SODO area of Seattle.   Affordable Knitting Class?

  3 0 Yay, knitting is awesome!  Your best bet for affordable knitting classes is at yarn stores. They want you to knit because then you come back and buy yarn from them.   I'm not as familiar with the Eastside, but it looks like Serial Knitters in Kirkland offers classes: http://serialknitters.com/default.aspx There may be a yarn store even closer to your location. Personally, I've never taken a class.  When I learned how to knit it was from someone I know. In turn, I've taught several friends how to knit, purl, cable, etc.   So if you have any friends who are knitters, get them to show you the basics.  A really, really good source for basic knitting skills, instructions and cute, simple patterns (really, the best) is Stitch n Bitch.  Also consider joining a stitch n bitch group.  It's a good way to pick up technique, and make friends.  Often groups will meet in coffee shops or at yarn stores.  Happy Knitting! so-so answered in Making Art/Crafting about 1 year ago Answer, comment & read 5 more answers »

  2 0 There have been several informal studies where someone has comparison shopped at local groceries, and QFC always comes out as significantly more expensive than other grocery stores....even places like Metropolitan Market.   What's the best way to cook parsnips?

  4 0 How're you cooking them? I've had success with roughly chopping them tossing them in olive oil, salt and pepper and roasting them in the oven with other root vegetables. Another favorite dish of mine is rutmus, which is basically mashed potatoes with parsnips (or turnips). You boil the potatoes and parsnips and then mash it all together with cream and butter. Yum.
