We've been to a couple of parties at that pool - it's really great.

Also, the Everett Children's Museum is really good too...

I don't recall it having a really strong focus on female characters, but Glen David Gold's Carter Beats the Devil is a pretty fun alt-history set at the point when theater & vaudeville was about to be eclipsed by television. You could also try Connie Willis' To Say Nothing of the Dog, which is a fun time-travel story about a pair of researchers stuck in the 19th century, trying to work their way through a drawing-room farce to untangle a knot in time...both of these are really pleasant ways to spend a few hour...

Have you tried Allen Steele's Coyote series? They're collections of novellas that tie together to tell the larger story of a group of outcasts who have escaped to the one habitable planed humanity has found. They're trying to establish a colony in an environment much harsher than expected, and simultaneously prepare to defend themselves against the retaliation they know is coming...the politics are pushed a little too hard in the very first story of the initial volume (and this is coming from someone who would empathize with them!) but after that, the series gets really engaging...

Part of the problem is that I don't even have a sell-by date. I know I bought it out of their fresh case on 10/1, and it's been in the back of a pretty cold fridge ever since. It was well wrapped in plastic bag and then tightly in butcher paper, but that clearly is a lesser standard than vac-sealing. It doesn't have the tell-tale signs that would normally turn me away from bacon - discoloring, slimy texture, off smell - but the age was making me suspicious.

I'm not sure of the sourcing on their bacon. It might be made there, but I suspect its probably made by a local producer and provided in bulk.

I'm totally onboard with the freezing, BTW. Unfortunately, I forgot about the package until just now - I came across it when cleaning the fridge. I usually put three strips together into a little roll and then store all my rolls in a ziplock bag - that way I can easily pull out a single portion at a time...
