  • What do you like to bring to a picnic?
    Cosmo_small

Quinoa salad! Into a bowl of cooked/cooled quinoa toss chopped pepperoncini, kalamata olives, tomatoes, cucumber and black beans along with a quick vinaigrette. Tastes great at room temp and bonus - your veggie and gluten-free friends will love you for it.

The other day I made one with just lemon zest, lemon juice, a little olive oil, fresh basil and slivered almonds. Yum!

  • At what grocery stores can you buy wine-based irish cream?

I saw some at Grocery Outlet on 4th Ave S on Sunday. 9.99 I think.

    1. No, I didn't. Technically it's something you're supposed to do your first week, but by the time I remembered, it was way past that and I was afraid of raising a red flag so I let it go.
    2. When you file your weekly claim online every week, part of the process is entering your work search activity for that week (employer, employer contact info, kind of work, etc.). They select people and weeks at random and look at that week's job search activity. Mine always checked out, so they were just form letters to let me know I'd been selected. I was there for 21 months and it happened maybe 6 or 7 times?

They really do understand that the economy is tough everywhere, so as long as you're holding up your end and documenting like you're supposed to, they won't hassle you.

  • What happens if you move out of state whille collecting unemployment?
    Cosmo_small

Yes, you are still eligible. Your WA employer paid into the WA coffers. And your weekly benefit amount won't change, as it's based on your earnings here for your qualifying claim year.

I was laid off in WA, and almost immediately moved to San Francisco. All I had to do was fill out the change of address online. The only stipulation was that I 'check in' with my local unemployment office in my new city once I was there. I kept filing my WA weekly claims online and my direct deposits kept coming. Every once in a while I'd get one of those random "we looked at your job search information" letters that basically said - looks good, continue as you are.

I just moved back to Seattle (obviously there are no jobs in San Francisco), filled out the same address change form and things have really been seamless. Don't be scared, if you think relocating will help, do it! Washington Employment Security really doesn't care.

  • What's the best place for a relaxing beach vacation?
    Cosmo_small

Manzanillo, Mexico. You'll run into the bare minimum of Americans, mostly Canadians and Mexicans on vacation. Alaska flies direct now. The beach we went to (La Boquita) is where the locals go and you go in the morning, rent an umbrella/chairs for like 8 bucks and you get service all day - from alcohol drinks to coconuts to mangoes on sticks to the most delicious tiny little (and dirt cheap) bean tacos I've ever had.

And there's a downtown/colonial village type place if you want to shop, take in some cultural stuff, etc.

It's No Good - Depeche Mode

    I'm gonna take my time
I have all the time in the world
    To make you mine
It is written in the stars above
    The gods decree
You'll be right here by my side
    Right next to me
You can run, but you cannot hide

    Don't say you want me
    Don't say you need me
    Don't say you love me
    It's understood
    Don't say you're happy
    Out there without me
    I know you can't be
    'cause it's no good

  • Are there any local banks that don't use the "Chex System"?
    Cosmo_small

Try US Bank. I had a old Chex Systems record and they told me when they opened my checking account that they consider themselves a 'second chance' ChexSystems bank. I've been with them for a few years now and have no complaints.
