  • Local Rolling Stones Cover Band?
    Michiko_small

They are called the The Rolling Stones and they are awesome! I just asked one of the band members and they don't have any shows planned in Seattle any time soon...

  • Looking for a Naturopathic Doctor!
    Michiko_small

    Institute of Complementary Medicine.
    http://www.icmedicine.com/

I've seen Dr. Celmer and Dr. Risley for holistic care and they are both wonderful. Also, the clinic is really good at making sure alternative types of tests and lab work is covered by insurance.

  • Where are some of the best salads in Seattle?
    Michiko_small

Tutta Bella, good portions plus options for proteins in your salad.

  • Where can I get my turntable repaired, now that J&S is closed?
    Michiko_small

I've always gone to Hawthorne Stereo for all my hi-fi repairs and they've always done a great job.

  • Things to do in Seattle for a 21 year old visiting from NYC
    Michiko_small

Definitely vintage clothe shopping. Seattle has a great selection and much cheaper than NYC.

Places to go: Red Light (Broadway and the Ave), Lucky Vintage (Ave), Pretty Parlor (Capitol Hill), Fremont Antique Mall. Also, check out the flea market at Century Ballroom (Saturdays). Vintage + local designers.

First Thursdays in Pioneer Square would be fun too, lots of local flavor.

  • What are the easiest ways to improve browser speeds?
    Michiko_small

If you are mostly visiting sites that are text based, you can temporarily turn off loading images, which will greatly increase page load speed—but you won't have any images.

You can also turn off loading javascript, but a lot of modern websites will just not work without javascript.

I don't know what version of Firefox you are on, but typically that setting is found in preferences under content: "load images automatically" and "enable javascript".

  • What are the places that I absolutely must go to in SF?
    Michiko_small

Mexican breakfast at San Jalisco (20th and Van Ness)

And while you're in that neighborhood, get delicious coffee at Philz Coffee (24th and Van Ness). They have their own SF style you won't find in Seattle...

Friday or Sat night, goto a "show" the Audium (audium.org). It's a sound sculpture space that will take you back to the futurism of the 60s.

SF MOMA usually has good exhibits, but go on a weekday.

Get some drinks at the Gold Dust Lounge in Union Square. It's a really old dive bar with a gold rush era feel. When I went, there was a piano player and people getting super wasted and singing along.

The Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate park is really fun: planetarium, living roof, rainforest, aquariums, all encased in a modern, sustainable building.

And if you are at Golden Gate park on a Sunday afternoon, you should check out the roller skaters in the central north side of the park. They usually have a sound system set up and people practice their routines. Great people watching...

Oh, and definitely goto the beach!

    Have fun!

  • What's the best credit union in Seattle?
    Michiko_small

I have an account at BECU (3 years) and Verity CU (since I was 9 years old—they used to be NW Federal CU) and I love them both. They both offer slightly different services so I keep them both.

BECU is very modern, in that they don't have cash at most of their locations. All cash transactions are done through their atms and the lines can get long. And if you want quarters or anything, forget about it. However, they have great online services and they make it really easy to pay bills and transfer money.

Verity is more like a classic bank with tellers and cash transactions—minus the bullet proof glass. They don't have many locations, so it can be inconvenient. However, they are super nice and remember you personally. Plus they have good incentives like interest on your checking account and the Verity Passport card which gets you 2 for 1 dinners at many restaurants around town.

It's weird, but I <3 my credit unions! I feel like they are there to help me, not to rip me off.

  • What's the best fish and chips in north Seattle
    Michiko_small

I love the cod and chips from Anthony's fish bar on the waterfront, but I bet their fish and chips will be pretty good at any of their locations. They make my favorite tartar sauce too. I miss daly's (more for their fish sandwich).

  • Can you recommend a good allergy specialist?
    Michiko_small

I haven't seen her personally, but when I was having allergy problems, my chiropractor highly recommended Dr. Kim Celmer at the Institute for Complementary Medicine. She's naturopathic doctor who specializes in allergies and chronic conditions. She'll take a more holistic approach to your allergy issues.
