  • iPhone 4s's Siri: can she be renamed?
    Guild_1024x768_small

Siri is still in beta, and that may be coming down the pipeline in the future...right now though, it's just Siri.

To confirm, though, you could always ask Siri if it can be renamed. :-)

  • iPhone 4S - Verizon or AT&T?
    Guild_1024x768_small

Well the one thing you can do on AT&T that you can't on Verizon is surf the web while you're on the phone, due primarily to the difference in network architecture (CDMA vs. GSM). GSM technology also technically allows for faster speeds, but because AT&T has had a three year lead on iphone sales, the network is essentially being throttled by all the traffic, particularly in tech dense areas like San Francisco and New York City. Thus Verizon's network, at least in those areas for sure, may feel a bit faster. They do have more coverage. I'm not a fan of their tiered data plan, but AT&T now has a similar option so it's kind of moot ( I'm grandfathered into unlimited data with AT&T regardless). Additionally, the 4S has a dual antenna system, making it a more viable option if you're ever off the continent (wasn't the case previously).

So really, it's more about personal preference. The only two differences are network coverage (though AT&T has been building out more antennas in the area lately) and the not being able to surf and call thing on Verizon's cellular network (wifi is a different story). Given all of that, I'd check on price point and go from there.

  • What are your go-to albums for work outs??
    Guild_1024x768_small

I think this came up once before.

Anyways, my go to jogging album is midnight boom by the kills. For other stuff, I like continuous mixes...The Erlend Oye DJ Kicks is one of my favorites.

  • Easy Vegan recipes?

Check out theppk.com. She's written about 7 cookbooks now and I have yet to find a recipe in there that I hated. She's got a few that you can make in less than 30 minutes too.

  • Question about the film "Audition"
    Guild_1024x768_small

on the DVD we saw, there was an audio commentary that Miike did specifically on the last 20 minutes of the film, as it was that portion that people consistently asked him about and found the most confusing. The last bit is a juxtaposition of the way the man was perceiving what the girl was saying/doing with what she was actually telling him.

  • What's the best electric water kettle.
    Guild_1024x768_small

This is all subjective. We also have a Cuisinart electric water kettle that gets the job done.

HOWEVER, the gold standard in hot water dispensers/heaters is arguably Zojirushi. They have a number of different models, with various capacities and features, but many of my tea-lovin' friends view these as the holy grail of water heaters.

  • What are your favorite extra-super-good places for soup?
    Guild_1024x768_small

Most of the dishes at In The Bowl are high up there. The Easy Day Noodle Soup is my go-to comfort food on cold winter nights.

But honestly, soup is such an easy thing that I really like to just make it at home and experiment with some flavors. My new favorite home remedy - ginger parsnip soup with cashew cream.

  • What are some good podcasts for a looooong drive?
    Guild_1024x768_small

Doug Loves Movies is one of my favorites. It's Doug Benson and 2-3 guests (usually other somewhat well known comedians but sometimes actors/directors) talking about movies and playing games.

NPR's planet money podcast is decent.

You can get previous episodes of This American Life to take with you, as well as Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.

I'll throw one out for Sklarbro Country, which is theoretically about sports (they cover a lot of ground) but the Sklar Bros. are so hilarious it's worth it even if you're not into the subject matter.

KCRW's morning becomes eclectic has some good live performances.

Chris Hardwick hosts the Nerdist podcast, which can be kind of hit and miss, depending on the guest.

Finally, Kevin Pollak's Chat Show for the long-form interview. Those are available in both audio and video format.
