  • Where can I find currywurst in Seattle?

    I don't know if it's good, but they have it at Shultzy's (in the U district).

    thanks! part of the fun for us (and my brother) would be scrambling around after the crabs.. so your rake idea sounds promising. maybe i'll try the ring, too.

    we have licenses and a crab gauge already, I should have mentioned that. although I have to see about getting him a license..

    I call it Old Luda:

    * 2-3 parts cognac (probably not Conjure)

    * One part Fernet Branca

    * A bunch of dashes Angostura

    * orange twist

    I guess a Toronto (rye, fernet, angostura, simple syrup) is an adaptation of the Old Fashioned, and I've been using cognac instead of whiskey as a way to avoid simple syrup or sugar cubes. In the photo: drinking while you work.

  • What is a good bourbon for someone who is new to drinking that type of whiskey?
    N681722622_5889_small

    Bulleit is great, and one of my favorites, but I think it has a higher rye content than most bourbon's, making it spicier and (I think) less smooth. Can you get the eagle rare stuff out here? Those bottles are generally $25 and great, although it's single barrel so there's some variation between bottlings.

  • Good, smart Sci-Fi Fantasy summer read?
    N681722622_5889_small

    I mostly read science fiction, but recently was turned on to the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin. It's great stuff - everyone that I know, even non-fantasy readers (like myself) - love it. Everyone in my house read all four books this spring! Do it. Do it now.

    Wild turkey rye is amazingly good for the price (
    and name), I think.

    My dad lives about 30 minutes from this place called Cork N Bottle, in Covington, KY. They do these great single barrel projects with a bunch of distilleries (most of those that I mentioned), where they select a barrel from the distillery and sell unblended bottles, only at that store. You could drink nothing but bottles from that store, and really never taste the same whiskey twice. They're even the same price as a regular bottle. *that's* what I'm going to miss the most.

    Yeah, I don't often buy whiskey at a bar, unless it's my cheapo neighborhood bar. And I don't think of myself as a bourbon snob - a lot of what we drink regularly (bulleit, buffalo trace, old weller 107, four roses, wild turkey rye) seems to be available, if more expensive. I am planning on bringing a stash of nice stuff.. picking up two bottles of Van Winkle 12 tomorrow!

    Thanks for the help! I'll have to check out Liberty when I get to town.
