  • Where in Seattle can I find affordable high waisted jeans?
    Tweet_small

They have highwaisted, skinny (cigarrette) mildly stretchy jeans at Urban Outfitters. They might just be what you're looking for. Also, this, in the way of "navy" inspired: http://www.etsy.com/listing/70299958/the-stealth-pant-high-waisted-slim-pant

  • What is a great Shakespeare quote to send someone on their birthday?

Well, if said friends plans to drink on their birthday, this is a good quote about "whiskey dick":

“It provokes the desire but it takes away the performance. Therefore much drink may be said to be an equivocator with lechery: it makes him and it mars him; it sets him on and it takes him off.”

My tolerance for sci-fi is pretty high, depending on the context. For instance, although I'm not sure they "count," I love the Hitchhiker's Guide series. I also was enjoying the copy of Snow Crash Hickey loaned me until I lost it. I also love love loved World War Z and the Road which, although not sci-fi, I forgot to mention earlier. I'll definitely seek out The Fuck-Up and The Remainder sooner rather than later.

For the sake of brevity I neglected to mention, in my initial post that, while I've loved pretty much all Palanhiuk books, I've been reading Pygmy for almost a year now, which is a record for me and a Palanhiuk book. I'm just not into it. And, while both are good, Rant and Snuff were nowhere near as enjoyable as his previous books.

I also really like everything I've read by A.M. Homes, White Noise and Libra by Don DeLillo, Junky (Burroughs) and the the Rum Diary (Hunter S.).

I loved Lolita, and I'm pretty sure I read the Bell Jar in high school, but I'll double check. I also think I've picked up and flipped through House of Leaves before and was put off by the unconventional layout. I'll try these others. Thanks!

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for all of the suggestions! Maybe I haven't done my due diligence on Sherman Alexie - I thought he wrote historical non-fiction and fiction, which I didn't really think I'd enjoy. Everyone is always talking about Murakami and I thought I'd tried to read one of his books and not enjoyed it, but a quick glance at his wikipedia page shows that although most of the titles are familiar, I've never read any of them. Which one should I start with? Wind Up Bird Chronicles? Middlesex I really have picked up a few times and it has failed to draw me in.
I actually read The Curious Incident immediately after reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower and, although it was good, it paled in comparison for me and I wished I hadn't read them consecutively.

    I appreciate your suggestions, everyone!

Oh shit! I saw Susan Powder at the Northgate Target like a month ago. I was with a friend who also saw her and I even tweeted about it, but never got any actual confirmation. The only thing that made me think twice was that her hair is a terrible bottled bleach color now, as opposed to the perfect white I remember at the height of her "fame." Now I have confirmation. Thanks!

  • What famous people live in Seattle or surrounding areas? Does Kris Novoselic live in Seattle?
    Tweet_small

Anna Faris is from here and her dad, although not famous, lives here. I have it on good authority that he frequents Serafina, and she has accompanied him there in the past.
