  How does Youtube decide the order of search results?

  4 0 I don't know, but since YouTube is a Google company I can take a pretty good guess: 1. Google's search algorithms are extremely complex and sophisticated. Furthermore they are designed to try and ensure that no one can figure them out easily enough to game them. 2. Google typically ranks results based on the behavior of viewers and site owners. So if a lot of people link to a given video or embed it then each of those instances is considered a "vote" for that video. 3. They will also incorporate things like actual votes, views, keywords/tags, etc. 4. I'm sure they also rank videos based on how much of the video was watched. Did people abandon it after a 30 seconds or watch the whole thing. So the short answer is that it is designed so that you cannot easily figure it out and it incorporates every bit of data about the video that is available - esp. the behavior of other sites and people watching. Bravehorse Tavern Both are excellent, although I lean towards LW's because they are in Capitol Hill and excellent fries... and actually a better burger for a better price.   Will extra options be added to the Search function on Questionland?

  1 0 Russ, Sorry for the insane sort order. The sort order is a bug pure and simple - it's prioritizing incorrectly. Maintaining the selected search type is a good idea and pretty straightforward. It turns out that this search bug is a bigger deal than I had thought and the Gnome will hopefully be able to dig in very soon to resolve it. Thanks as usual for the great feedback.   0 0 Thanks for the updated feedback. The experience changes with time and so this later feedback is perhaps even more relevant than the initial impressions. I think Russ did a great job of explaining the benefits of the current approach - thanks for that. That said, it is still not ideal for people who are more question focused. I've been chatting with the Gnome about ways to address that. Perhaps something as simple as switching the q's with a's but leaving the relative sizes the same. Thanks for letting us know.
