Should have just asked that as a Q... which I will do right now...

Interesting... I have an inkjet and am hating the ink problem. What laser printer would you get now? Color and B&W... if you have a suggestion...

Thanks for the updated feedback. The experience changes with time and so this later feedback is perhaps even more relevant than the initial impressions.

I think Russ did a great job of explaining the benefits of the current approach - thanks for that.

That said, it is still not ideal for people who are more question focused. I've been chatting with the Gnome about ways to address that. Perhaps something as simple as switching the q's with a's but leaving the relative sizes the same.

Thanks for letting us know. We'll keep working on it.

    Thanks Kip,

I'll let the Gnome know and I have a feeling that's the way we'll go because it doesn't require effort or know-how for the person to make it work for them.

Yes. That's the conclusion we came to in discussing your very valid objections to current verbosity.

The Gnome is working on that now. In fact the testing department (me) is giving it a run through for the next little bit and if all goes well the change will happen very soon. I'll let you know.

Thanks so much for sticking with us and telling us what would be better. We'll have these kinks worked out very soon.

    Russ,

Thanks for the evolving feedback as you get used to the new design. It is much appreciated.

Reputation is always tallied at a given point in time. So when someone stops following (or changes their mind about a mushroom) the points are removed. So yes, you will see the reputation go up and down.

Due to the fact that we have an excessively verbose notification system people might be inclined to un-follow more often. We are addressing that right now and expect that un-following will be less common.

Great question and you are not going to love my answers - for now anyway, it's all or nothing.

We wrestled with this one. In the past we've had people ask to get notifications of other comments on answers because the interest in the question usually means they are also interested in the discussions around the question. It's not uncommon for comments to span answers (i.e relate to more than one answer).

Typically a questions gets a handful of answers/comments so the mail would not be overwhelming. Of course this question is an exception, with many answers and many comments.

    Our challenge was to:

    1. Meet the needs of people who didn't want miss out on discussions about the question regardless of being the person who answered. WHILE...

    2. Not sending people too much mail or sending them stuff they didn't really want. WHILE...

    3. Not creating so many configuration options that nobody could figure out what was going on.

We opted for an all or nothing approach at the outset on the basis that:

    1. Most questions are not that verbose.
    2. Every email you get lets you un-follow, so if it's too noisy then it's always easy to stop it.

We think we chose the solution that will meet most people's needs broadly. Still, it's not ideal. If you have a suggestion that will allow for selective updates without excessive complexity we'd be grateful for any suggestions.

In the meanwhile, the only thing to do with a noisy question is to un-follow it.

Chrome has very aggressive local caching, so what you are seeing is some combination of the old and new sites which causes an unholy mess. Just clear the cache and you'll be fine.

You can do this by going to the "under the hood" section of chrome:

    preferences >
    under the hood >
    clear browsing data >
    empty the cache.

Not sure why. I've tested it on my iPad and had no problems. Are you going to Qland from an existing bookmark? Have you tried refreshing/reloading the page?

If you those don't work maybe you could give me some sense of what isn't working and I can try and figure it out.

    Thanks
