I assumed it was 50%, as in half the fee up front, half on delivery.

No, it was definitely a PowerBar, in a light blue/aqua wrapper. You get major points for finding that, though. What possessed these people, to make this?

  • What's the weirdest food you've seen in a convenience store?
    Tomato_small

Mr. Luckier and I once saw a box of "Club Sandwich" -flavored PowerBars. No lie. We didn't purchase any, which has made it more difficult to convince people this actually happened. I've written and tried to get confirmation from the PowerBar people, but they will not respond.

You're welcome - have a great time. PS Mr. Lucky says the good thrift neighborhood is 4th Avenue.

  • anyone an expert on Tucson, AZ?
    Tomato_small

My mother-in-law lived there, so we visited a few times. Tucson has awesome thrift shopping, because old people move there with all their finery and winter clothes and then just live in Tommy Bahama. Seriously, minks and cashmere and good mens suits. I can't recall the name of the neighborhood with all the vintage shops, but if you ask around and find it, there are fun bars and restaurants around there. I don't recall any microbrews, but Google says there are some, so there you go.

The Arizona Desert Interpretive Museum is fun, and an medium/easy walk for seniors/olds. A great way to see and learn about the flora and fauna of the desert. You may just see a javelina - they smell terrible. The folks here would be good people to ask about hikes - where to go and what to bring with you.

Mission San Xavier de Bac is a 200+ year old Spanish mission church out on the 19. It's in the process of being restored, so check to see if it's open the public. We went one year at Christmas and it was very beautiful and with an interesting (colonial, troubling) history. It is an active mission for the Tohono O'odham people, so be respectful. You can buy frybread and Indian crafts in the parking lot.

  • How do I make an anonymous donation to a public institution?
    Tomato_small

While a lawyer could probably do this, I would first ask your accountant or financial advisor if they could do it. Will you want to write this off on your taxes? If so, you'll need to donate to a non-profit foundation on behalf of your school - often the PTA or like foundation is set up as a 501(3)(c), so you can take the write off.

Then, your accountant's going to want the receipt for your taxes - he could inquire with the institution, make a donation (of your funds, but from his trust account) and get a receipt that he could include with some sort of form indicating that the receipt is for you? Just spitballing here, but I think it could be done, and cheaply.

  • Gift-giving question: To give it before X-mas or to wait until after?
    Tomato_small

Why not just tell her that there's an awesome present for her but it's too big to travel with so she'll have to wait and no hints. She's a grown up who knows there is no Santa coming down the chimney. The anticipation will be fun and make you both excited to get home. Just make sure her surprise isn't a vacuum cleaner.

And the more time has gone by, distorting your memory and making you forget all of the help you had on the way.

  • Where can I find a cheap wedding dress?
    Tomato_small

If she likes vintage styles and isn't married (ha) to white, I'd recommend she look at Modcloth or Trashy Diva.

White will be harder to find in winter, but it's also a hard color for most of us to pull off.

Whatever she buys, she should line up a good seamstress to fit it in the neckline, waist and length.

    Good luck!

  • what music is appropriate for kids, fast, and makes you want to dance?
    Tomato_small

When my nephews were littles, I made them an awesome mix of They Might be Giants and Jonathon Richman and the Modern Lovers, which they l.o.v.e.d. But, they also listened to a ton of Beastie Boys, and now they love the Beatles (at 14, 12 & 8.) I think anything with no swears or overt nastiness is fair game for kids. And O My Captain's mix rocks, I would listen to that with kids.
