So Mars Hill Church helps people find a community, stave off existential dread, feel superior to others, and protects them from the responsibility of having to think about ethics and morals like adults.

I guess this follow-up question is unanswerable. How do people convince themselves to believe God, The Devil, and all that stuff is real? If you gave the entire Mars Hill Church Community truth serum, would they actually state that their literal interpretation of the Bible is factually true, or are they all just taking part in a consensual illusion in exchange for the social benefits.

Those social benefits sound great, but I could never force myself to believe in anything so transparently false as a literal interpretation of the Bible.

  • What should I put on my sign for the National Equality March in DC?
    Thh_jpeg_small

Remember there's no wrong answers in brain storming.

"Why are Christians so mean spirited?"

"Jesus didn't worry about gays. Neither should you!"

"Taking away my rights is un-American!"

"Don't you have anything better to do than bully gay people?"

"Christians are to gays what Romans were to Jews."

  • Restaurant for 30 people?
    Thh_jpeg_small

    Quinn's.

Quinn's was voted best pub in the country by Bon Appetite Magazine, it's on 11th and Pike, and it has party space for 100 people.

It's not super-expensive. It's really classy, and bone marrow.

    What's not to love?

  • is it legal to park a shitty RV on your front lawn (and have people living in it) in Seattle?
    Thh_jpeg_small

Maybe maybe not, but if you tattle on them to the city and make them homeless just because you're annoyed, you suck as a person.

  • How much do you tip in the following situations?
    Thh_jpeg_small

Tips should be conditional on quality of service. Before anyone goes crazy on me, I live off of tips. I don't deserve a tip if I treat you like shit. It doesn't matter how hung-over or sick I am.

That being said, I agree with most of the numbers posted above. In a restaurant, %20 should be given for great service. %15 for average service, and %10 for rude service. About half the time, poor service is the fault of management understaffing the restaurant, or someone calling in sick or quitting without giving notice. So if a server can be cool and kind while being inefficient, I do 15%. If we're mean and snippy, we don't deserve a tip.

I only tip cab drivers if they aren't talking on their cell phones. Even talking on hands free cell phones while driving is as bad as driving drunk.

  • Why is there so much resistance in the U.S. to a national health care system?
    Thh_jpeg_small

Because America is fighting for its identity. We're a plutocratic oligarchy that is still tethered to the vestiges of a representational democracy. The insurance industry paid $46,635,720 in political donations this year. They have paid to play, and a government insurance agency, unburdened by the need to make profit, would provide better insurance at lower rates. The insurance companies have paid to play, and that money trumps public opinion. The propaganda wing of our oligarchy we call news media is making the case on behalf of their advertisers, and the government officials those advertisers have paid to put in office. The reason our healthcare is so expensive is because of the obscene profits the drug companies, doctors, and insurance companies rake in.

That socialized health care which would benefit all middle and lower class Americans, and is desired by 70% of the populace is even being considered, is hopeful. If we don't get socialized health care, it will prove without a doubt that people are shut-out from their own government.

  • Firewood with spiders
    Thh_jpeg_small

Spiders save the world every day. Love them, kiss them, and call them George.

Man/Woman up. If you want to have firewood, you need to get used to having spiders around. Most are completely harmless, and you have to actually try to get bit by them.

Everyone should work to overcome irrational fear. This is an opportunity for you to realize how powerful and big you are. Knock the wood on the floor of your garage, and watch em scatter. Then they can go back to their work of killing all of the pests that eat your wood, vegis, lawn, and house.

  • How do all the regular Slog posters have enough time in their day to write all those comments? Seriously, don't they have jobs?
    Thh_jpeg_small

If people write quickly, a lot of text can take a short ammount of time and effort. It may look like people are spending all day in front of the computer, when they are just fast readers and writers.
