So Mars Hill Church helps people find a community, stave off existential dread, feel superior to others, and protects them from the responsibility of having to think about ethics and morals like adults.

I guess this follow-up question is unanswerable. How do people convince themselves to believe God, The Devil, and all that stuff is real? If you gave the entire Mars Hill Church Community truth serum, would they actually state that their literal interpretation of the Bible is factually true, or are they all just taking part in a consensual illusion in exchange for the social benefits.

Those social benefits sound great, but I could never force myself to believe in anything so transparently false as a literal interpretation of the Bible.

Sorry, I think my answer was a bit crass. Genuinely worrying over the safety of your kid is great. I get a bit angry at our safety obsessed culture robbing children of any kind of exploration and adventure. Wondering about a wasp, and forcing your child to stay indoors all the time are two different things. I was reacting to the idea of the latter.

Capitalism sucks donkey balls, and it also relies on competition between vendors of goods and services to function. That's why we're supposed to break up monopolies. The property owners in this city act as a monopoly by artificially inflating rental rates regardless of the market.

I didn't know about the Maoist origin of the word, but the last cited paragraph backs me up. It even calls it a straw man argument. If you use the Maoist definition of language being controlled by the government, then we definitely don't have any kind of 'Political Correctness' movement in this country beyond a teeny and powerless minority. I doubt you could get modern Marxists to be for the Government controlling speach.

It only came into use as we use it now in the 80's and then exclusively by Republicans. There has never been a Political Correctness movement in this country, and it didnt' start and has never been used seriously in acadamia. The use of the term as we use it was invented by the right-wingers. No one has ever claimed to be part of a 'Political Correctness Movement'.

Considering that rental rates are artificially inflated due to illegal conspiracy by property owners, I think they can afford it. Rent costs in this city are a giant leech on the economy. they should be controled by the city government so people that live here can have a little bit of extra income to keep all the other business afloat.

I said we should all drive less. I didn't say that we should all stop driving. I'm here a bit late, and so I don't think anyone will read this. Our whole infrastructure in this country is designed and built for the benefit of the auto and gass industries. life can be very difficult without access to a car, but I stand by what I wrote, even if it had no bearing on what some readers reacted to. We should all find ways to use less fossil fuel by cutting down on the ammount of driving we do.
