For what it's worth, here's what I know about the car problems: I started having a problem where the car wouldn't upshift, so for me to get to faster speeds the car would be at 5k-6k RPM. I made an appointment to take it in, but before I could the engine gave out. The mechanic said the engine was completely out of oil, so there must have been some kind of burn going on in there (I'm not THAT bad a car owner). He didn't look at the transmission too heavily, so I don't know if the problems are related or not.

At any rate, I acknowledge that fixing the car is the cheapest way to get myself back into automotive transportation. The car has about 155k miles, 100k of which I've put on it in the decade I've owned it. At this point, my thought process is that I'd sort of like a new car (owned this one a LONG time), but I do most of my traveling these days by bicycle and so I can afford to wait a bit and save up for something a bit newer/nicer.

A trade-in isn't really an option for me; while I technically have the cash to repair this car if I needed to I can't afford to buy a newer car outright at the moment. Thanks for the extra advice though, Jack!

I ended up checking out Kuhlman. They definitely have an impressive selection of fabric and the proprietor clearly knows what he's doing, but for the sake of anyone viewing this down the line it was a lot more expensive than I would have guessed as a non-fashionista. Like, three times more expensive than I would have guessed.

I assume I'm going to love the shirt, I just think I'd have to shop around a bit before I could afford to have any more of those made.

Yeah, I can't reply to the main thread either.

I'm a purist, I don't tend to put much in my grilled cheese that isn't cheese. Sharp cheddar, grated. Crusty bread, like Myrna recommended. Dijon mustard on one slice of the bread, on the inside. Once the cheese is on and the sandwich assembled, I use a mister to spritz the outside of the bread with some olive oil and then grill it panini style. (One easy way to do that is to heat up two skillets, place the sandwich in one and then the other skillet on top of the sandwich.)

It's basically the way Alton Brown recommends.
