Also: 509 is the best way to the airport. It's best to change to 518, but if you carry on to the end you go around the south end of the airport. To get to Southcenter or Tukwila etc., take 599 and get off onto Interurban, which goes past everything in that area, or take Grady up to Renton. Never drive on 405 unless it's 3:30 AM.

They go faster than 40. Federal Way is one of the two main "zip in and out of lanes on the freeway 20 MPH faster than all the other traffic" zones on I-5. The other is where South Tacoma shades into Fort Lewis, er, JBLM. Maybe the ones you're seeing are sputtering because the driver had to buy an extra pot of Bondo this week and couldn't afford spark plugs.
