  Any tips for preparing real food on a fixed budget?

  4 0 Healthy for cheap = whole-foods, from-scratch, plant-based diet. I ate for around $1-2/day for a while. It was repetitive, but healthy. Lots of legumes (lentils are GOD for cheap, flexible protein), dark leafy greens (collards, kale, spinach), tomato, carrot, broccoli, bananas, apples, peanut butter, and citrus fruit. Accent the beans and fresh veggies with rice, bread, pasta, potatoes, mushrooms, nuts (almonds and walnuts pack big nutritional punch for the $), tofu, and fish (canned salmon, sardines). Canola oil is your friend. It's good for you (great omega 3/6 ratio), and cheaper than the other healthy alternatives (olive, mainly). Use other oils for flavor after cooking. Cheese and meat = condiments. If you're going to drink milk (which is not nutritionally necessary), that's not the place to skimp on organic-ness, imo. Soups are great for using up bits and pieces. Keep veggie scraps (especially onion and garlic peels, carrot peels and tops, mushroom bits, tomato ends, herb trimmings) in a tupperware in the freezer and make your own broth, it's really easy. If you buy a whole chicken once in a while, the carcass is also a good source of broth, obviously. Boil whatever you've got in a big pot with a little oil mixed in, strain it through cheesecloth, freeze. Grow your own herbs. Check out some of the no-knead bread options out there (most popular: Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes Per Day). Having bread dough hanging out in the fridge all the time makes it easy to have good bread from scratch. Try 2/3 whole wheat with 1/3 white flour (it's hard to make 100% whole wheat that everybody will like without commercial dough conditioners/magic).   Students' opinion about e-learning

  1 0 I've not liked the online courses I've done so far. They generally lack structure, and I need some of that to keep on top of things. I benefit from lecture/discussion, which is lacking. And my impression has usually been that the teachers are just doing it to grab some extra $ and don't actually want to be involved or helpful beyond the bare necessity of assigning grades.   Quitting shampoo. Does this work for curly hair?

  1 0 I've been trying that too, and it does help. I'm finding that it feels best to avoid conditioner on my scalp and just scrub with fingertips and hot water every couple of days, followed by leave-in conditioner, and then once in a while I break down and shampoo because it feels good, but I apply conditioner to my hair first (I have long hair) and then shampoo just to my scalp, in an effort to keep the soap away from most of the hair shaft as much as possible. The compromise seems to work. Bonus tip: try Moroccan Oil hair products. The curl cream is awesome and it smells great.
